I think the storyline worked, I don’t really think the “Jake situation” was really ever completely worked out or I guess I came out feeling more confused than I was before he had his final chat with her. I didn’t really like Jake, Finley or even Brody. I tried and I did read the book until the end. The characters just struck me as more “high school” than college. Finley, I thought was ridiculous in her behavior. Brody totally overreacted to the point of being scary. And there was barely any dialogue between Finley and Jake. Finley was frankly, a complete mess or at least that’s the impression I got from how the author wrote how she acted.

I know I’m in the minority on this and hesitate writing a review that can’t be at least four stars but I see real potential for the author. But after reading tons of “college” aged books, this is NOT how they act or talk. I won’t be continuing my journey because I have a feeling Finley is going to be more immature than ever in the next book.

And the words cool and us were used way too much and the whole we don’t need to be married to be committed. And Please marriage is NOT just a piece of paper or that certainly isn’t the way I feel about mine. Young kids today too many times are pushed to thinking that the only thing that separates couples that are dating and ones that are married is the legality of it all and that’s sad. Marriage is a commitment, one you can’t easily leave, one you build on and create a life with someone you can see yourself with in this life and the one after.

Becoming Us was about Finley wanting to party with her friends and sow her oats while in college. Finley had this ideal belief that college was the opportune time to be reckless and careless. Finley pined after Jake for a few years before she was granted the opportunity to become his friend. Becoming Us was about Finley figuring out the type of guy that was a perfect match for her by looking in the wrong place. She referenced how she wished she had not been so obsessed with Jake because she almost missed the opportunity to meet Brody. Becoming Us was book 1 in the London lovers series. This story, however, never took place in London and these characters were not from London. Her friend was in London, but not Finley. I felt the author made up reasons to test their love.

It was not easy to ascertain what the intentions were with Finley and Jakes character. It was not made clear until she introduced Brody’s character. This plot discovery would have saved me from the nasty comments I had about Finley’s character.
I’m so confused by Finley’s character. Her behavior was erratic.

Finley’s character was shallow and her priorities needed reassessing. Finley had some strange qualities about her. I thought Finley’s character was mean and verbally nasty towards Jake. Finley put Jake on a pedestal and when he did not meet her expectations she became jealous and angry. She constantly blamed Jake for sending her mixed messages when quite honestly is was her behavior and tactics that were ugly.

The story contained a lot of useless information not pertinent to the story. The author got sidetracked easily with her rants about irrelevant topics. I hope their is a point to be made by showing this side of Finley because it was not very appealing. She was unstable and was stuck on the idea that being in college meant you had to party and sow your oats. I was not a fan of the testing love tactics to prove they were meant for each other. Honestly, I was surprised that Finley reacted negatively towards Jake’s preference to date athletic girls when she too had preferences.

Audiobook Becoming Us (London Lovers #1) by Amy Daws

This was another free ebooks that sounded really good. And honestly, at first I didn’t understand the “London Lovers” part of the title. But after reading the sneak peek at book two, I definitely do. And since it was payday, I went ahead and spent the high price of $3.99 to get book two, because there is quite a bit of a cliffhanger at the end of this one. I loved the story, the whole being friends with someone and them not really wanting more for some reason. And as someone who lives in Kansas City, Missouri, all the talk about this city, as well as other places in both Missouri and Kansas, was so cool for me! Now the little bit of a cliffhanger at the end did, once again, remind me of something that happened in the After series, in the last book I think.

Audio Becoming Us (London Lovers #1) narrated by Emma Lysy

I came in to this book blind after reading and loving Challenge, I needed to go back to the beginning and read all the words by this author. Generally the first few books by an author are a little clunky until they find their style voice. Not the case here. This book surprised me, and I love when that happens! I had not read the synopsis; I did not know about the love triangle and did not see it coming. I had not connected with one of the main characters, but figured he would have some redeeming qualities written later in the story. Nope. See ya, buh bye. Good riddance to you. Not much of a triangle after all. It wasnt hard for me to switch gears and fall head over heels in love with the guy left standing. Its not hard for the heroine, Finley, to fall in love either-sticky, messy, glorious love. I loved this book; I found the writing fresh and romantic and the characters strong and passionate.

I wish I could say I enjoyed this story but unfortunately I didn’t. The pace of the story was so slow and it made the story drag. There were also some parts that were repetitive. I found Finley, Brody, Jake, Angela, Mark and the other characters to be okay but there was nothing about any of them that made me love them and want more. This story ends with a cliffhanger and the “Another Year Epilogue” was the best part of this book for me, but even that didn’t leave me wanting more. This book just wasn’t the one for me.
