Heavy is the head that wears the crown…or is soon to wear the crown. Larzukan is Crown Prince of Tharagan…soon to be King. But, in order to do so, he must marry. Not only that, but he must marry the one chosen for him by his subjects AND the winner of the Royal Tournament…a kind of alien reality show/popularity contest. Winner takes all…literally. The loser…in this case…is required to forfeit her life. Talk about performance pressure! Granted, this is the norm on this planet…a harsh reality brought on by many, many years of war and the need to learn to adapt to any situation. All are subject to these brutal lessons from a young age, even the children of the ruling class. Felicity is burdened as well. She is being forced by her ultra-religious preacher/father to marry an overbearing, abusive, odious man whose only redeeming feature is his attractiveness. Of course, her father loves the fact that he is also wealthy. Signing up to be a ‘mail-order bride’ to an alien doesn’t seem so bad given the alternative. Soon, she is whisked off the planet and deposited on a new one where everyone is blue and three moons brighten the night sky. As is common with scifi romances, she and Larzukan develop feelings for each other rather quickly and Felicity, when she discovers the requirements to be wed to the future King, sets about training with gusto…much to the surprise of Blancon, the King’s advisor. This easy-to-read story was fast and sweet but not so light that you got bored. There was palace intrique and treason and a character that you weren’t quite sure was a “good guy” or a “bad guy” up until the end. Loved it! With all the “alphamale/jerks” I’ve read recently, Larzukan was a nice change of pace. He was besotted with Felicity and it was quite pleasureable to see his struggle to make Felicity his queen.

Audiobook Blue Alien Prince’s Mail-Order Bride (Royally Blue #5) by Zara Zenia
Larzukan watched the third moon rise over his beautiful planet. It gave him the peace and quiet he craved. After his father died, he had spent 15 years training, both academically and physically, for the Choosing where students received their stations for the rest of their lives. If you failed the exam, you were executed. Failure for him was not an option. Now appointed king and leader, he would be expected to find a wife. But not having the time to find love was what bothered him most and weighed heavily on his mind.
Larzukans advisor and friend, Blancon, came to talk to him at the Queens request. His potential mate would have to endure a Choosing as well, a tournament that Larzukan considered barbaric. The tournament would happen in three months. So Larzukan gave Blancon three months, as his first task as advisor, to find an alternative for him to select a bride outside of the tournament or he would find him unfit for his advisor role! Besides, if the king found another bride, Floretta, the favored choice, would be available for Blancon who wanted her. And this would also be a test of Blancons unconditional loyalty to his king. After several days, Blancon rejoined the king and told him about Earth where a mail order bride might meet his requirements. She would still need to compete in the tournament, however.
Felicity Brown loved looking at the stars, but tonight she was worried about the arranged marriage her father was forcing on her in 6 weeks. She had only met him twice in the past year! This last time, a date to get to know him, was horrible. He explained sharply that she was to be his property and would be totally obedient to him. Then he listed the rules she had to follow as his wife. She was to ask no questions, just do what he said and learn her place. He forced his kiss on her so hard that his teeth cut her lips. Her best friend Kate called her when she got home. Her father had already accepted a large amount of money for her from Lances family and insisted she would marry him no matter what. She had to escape! So Kate told her about Celestial Mates if she married someone else, she would not have to marry Lance and she would be safe.
But with only 3 more weeks before the wedding, Felicity had heard nothing. She went onto the balcony to look at the stars and thought she saw something. Then a bright light forced her to close her eyes and she woke up on a bed. Someone said she looked so frail, she might not be the right one. But another answered that she was only a diversion. And she passed out again.
She was unconscious for a week. When she woke, Larzukan stood there and told her she was to be his bride. He gave her a drink of something they used for strength and healing. It invigorated her immediately. They walked outside to talk, and Felicity told him what she thought she already knew. She was correct about every point she made; then asked him to allow her to see him as he really was. He was overjoyed at her reasoning and intelligence. She was everything he had hoped she would be. He told her about the tournament and, although he did not like it, she would have to compete to become his wife. But it was her choice. He and Blancon would train her for it if she decided to stay. Could she compete with the women and survive? They had trained all their lives and knew what to expect. Could she improve physically to have that kind of strength? Or would she die? Should she instead take her chances on Earth?
I enjoy this authors imagination so much! She always presents a unique type of story for her readers that really makes them care for the main characters. Both seem to value similar things and would most likely be good for each other. But there are major obstacles to overcome. Can Felicity do that? There is so little time left to prepare! Grab this book and find out what her destiny is and how things turn out. The story line is good and the pacing is perfect. Enjoy!
