Extinction Shadow audiobook free

Good to see more books in the series. The pace was a bit plodding in the first half as the writer revisited old characters and set up the new storyline. By the end of the book the action was picking up and it is exciting to see where it is headed.

Extinction Shadow audiobook Series Cycle: Dark Age

The Extinction Cycle is one of my all time favourite series, so needless to say, I was beyond excited when the author announced a new book was coming out!!

This takes place about 8 years after the ending of Extinction War, and while this can be read as a stand alone series, I’d advise everyone to read the Extinction Cycle books first in order to fully realise the depth of the story and the characters.

The Allied States (formally the United States) has been slowly rebuilding itself and safe zones have been built. Life has been mostly quite for the survivours, with only some Variant attacks. But some of the outposts have gone dark and Team Ghost have been sent to investigate. What they find will call not only Beckham and Horn back from retirement, but also Kate. The Variants have adapted and the peace they have known is about to be shattered.

The plot of this was just as fast and nerve racking as the rest in the series. It never lets up and my heart was in my mouth so many times. The Variant threat has evolved and they are just as deadly as before. Kate is sent samples of things Team Ghost find and it’s up to her to see exactly what they are facing. I’m being intentionally vague because I could easily ruin the plot!! The science was well written and easy enough to understand! I’d be the muggle of a science community so I’m glad I was able to understand a lot of it. The action is brutal, fast paced and intense. I found it hard to put the book down and kept thinking of it even when I wasn’t reading it.

I haven’t read Anthony J. Melchiorri before (even though I have all his books!!) but the writing and characters here were seamless. It didn’t feel like two different writers wrote this!! I’ve said it before about Nicholas Sansbury Smith though and I’ll keep saying it… he writes exceptional characters. Seeing Beckham, Horn, Kate and Fitz again made my heart happy. Seeing the kids all grown up was amazing too as was seeing Dohi, Rico and the rest of Team Ghost. Of course, each character is put through the wringer, as was my heart!!

This book was amazing and I hope we get a good few more!! I urge all fans of the extinction cycle books to pick it up. But I also urge anyone who enjoys a non stop, action packed read to pick it up. This is a worthy edition to an amazing series and I’m more than ready for the next one.

Audiobook Extinction Shadow by Cris Dukehart

Read the Extinction Cycle series by Mr. Smith several years ago. Doesn’t look good for Donna, Bo and Timothy. They have had eight years to arm everybody old enough to hold a weapon. When are they going to learn that the 5.56 cartridge is good enough to stop Humans, but not to kill Varients. They should be firing a rifle and machine gun that fires the 7.62 x 51mm NATO cartridge. It will take fewer rounds to stop the new enemy. The HK17 rifle and the HK21 machine gun will work just fine.

Audio Extinction Shadow narrated by Nicholas Sansbury Smith

Mankind has started to recover in the USA. They are working on having elections for national office and having military actions against the mutants. The monsters are starting to vanish and they are slowing starving to death. After all, with no humans to eat the variants are starting to eat each other. The plan is to attack the monsters and finally wipe them out and make America Safe Again!

The planed military actions start but they don’t work out so well. The variants aren’t dying, they are multiplying underground and out of sight. They are also mutating into new and more dangerous creatures. Powerful alpha creatures are leading the smaller variants in war. There are also the children variants that are almost indestructible and extremely lethal to humans. The military is shocked to discover another new creature, it is a brain mutant that is planning all of the variant warfare actions with great success.

The variants are coordinating lethal strikes against the humans and it is a massacre. They travel underground unseen, they rise up in the cities and villages where humans are huddled. The variants seem to be able to communicate across the country and the humans are shocked when they find out how they are doing it.

To make things even worse there are human collaborators that are working with the monsters and acting as spies and assassins. It truly is the possible end for all humans on earth………

Nicholas Smith has joined hands with another author and created this intense story. I purchased the book and the audio book. I liked the audio book as the reader did a great job telling the story. This book keeps you reading,(Listening) and enjoying the action. I highly recommend this book.

This is a special book. I love that Smith decided to revisit the Extinction World, and that doing so has brought us another collaboration with Melchiorri. And all the things I’ve come to expect from a Smith novel are present here: military action, horror, solid science, and realistic characters.

What a treat it was to meet Reed, Kate and their friends eight years after Extinction War ended. With upcoming elections, life is guaranteed to be a bit unpredictable for a while, but I’m pretty sure no-one in the Allied States ever considered just how unpredictable. Team Ghost is once again in action, as well as new characters and new threats.

Five solid stars to this action-packed new entry into the Extinction World. I will be looking forward to the next book in the series.
