Grant Caldwell is recovering physically and emotionally. He was caught up in a drug bust gone bad and 6 months later he’s left with scars that he’s not sure even he can overlook. Belle Manikas moves in next door. I loved the instant the connection as well as the protective vibe the author injects between the couple. It had the past possible flame that can create some jealousy but it is very mild and brief before cleared up. Grant’s biggest dilemma is overcoming his insecurities about his disfigurement. Belle has no reaction which is the best thing about her character. She is a nurse so of course the sight of scars does not intimidate her but it goes deeper than that. The scars really just doesn’t trouble her and it’s not just because she has a 12 inch one of her own.

The book is a short read and the ability to keep me coming back to it. The only thing I wish would have been different about this book would be an easier flow and connection between chapters and sometimes it was one paragraph to another(which really brings you out of the story trying to comprehend). Some of these moments such as: Handsome half dressed Grant comes to Belle’s aid as when an ex,”friend” is getting a little rough with her. I would have enjoyed a deeper connective feel here. The attraction is a sure thing and the whole dinner scenario was loved by me. It was the beginning of a good thing with a bit of small talk and cute awkwardness and before dinner comes it goes to the next chapter.

There is two other scenes that sticks out in my mind. Belle gets a shock one night when a shadowy figure tries to break into her house. Grant shuts things down before they begin and so to put Belle at ease to get some sleep our handsome Hero stays at her place and cooks her breakfast in the wee morning hours. Totally adorable and sexy right but then as the two connect the most basic moments we want to see gets recapped to us. We learn later from Belle or Grants thoughts that they had discussed her job and that Grant found out Belle was a neonatal nurse. It are in these simple moments I feel it helps to build the bond in the readers mind to make them special, missing them felt disjointed. The last spot was Belle’s growing need for Grant. He has been there for weeks just supportive and reassuring which I loved on the authors part. I like things to go a bit slower and in the beginning of this book it appeared as though it would move too fast and shallow but by her slowing things down it gave more time for them to grow as friends. Anyhow Belle is determined tonight is that night and so scene is set and the two begin the magical dance when someone knocks at the door.

The author gets the opportunity to inject a female to spice up jealousy but it turns out it is his brother Porters fiance. The thing was that after they come to understand who each other were it stops and goes to the next chapter. If this had been the only instance it wouldn’t have been a drag but for me at this stage I started to get frustrated. There was no recap or mention it was as though her premeditation of her special night never occurred again feeling disjointed. So while I’ve listed my issues the story still had strong points that made me keep reading. Grant was protective, confident in making those around him feel safe, giving and domesticated. Yes, it was nice to see the man that can function in a kitchen. Catherine Anderson characters have similar characteristics and it really draws me to a character to see them do simple things that tough guys just aren’t pictured doing. An extra layer that makes you feel closer to them. I will come back to a Reus book again, enjoy!

Absolutely captivating!…..Author Katie Reus has produced another masterpiece from her bestselling Red Stone Security Series in book 2 of a Beauty and the Beast contemporary romance. Each book in miss Reus’s hit series are definitely must reads!………For the past two years, Grant Caldwell has been working as a detective and he loved his profession, but now, he finds himself on temporary disability after getting caught in the crosshairs from an explosion by helping SWAT leaving him scarred and emotionally distressed. Up until six months ago, Grant had his entire life all mapped out, that is, until this unfortunate incident happened making him dwell into his own pity party consuming him with nothing less than sheer bitterness, and to make matters worse, he was avoiding everything and everyone including his loving well-meaning family while he heals, and after quitting his job with the true intentions of never going back, he had no idea that his life as he once knew it was about to take a ninety degree turn the moment he first met his bold beautiful and brassy new neighbor. Since a child, she had her own health problems and deep hidden scars, and nurse Belle Manikas was looking forward to living on her own and escaping the clutches of her overbearing family, but after meeting Grant Caldwell, her persistent thoughts were shameless fantasies of getting her sexy neighbor into her bed, but soon, all those thoughts were about to be intercepted when a deranged madman tries to harm her at every turn forcing the cop mode in Grant to take action by protecting her in every which way. Telling himself constantly getting involved with the brunette-beauty was nothing but trouble, especially being partially disfigured, the undeniable truth was, Grant couldn’t stay away, and in time, the couple finds themselves seeking solace in each other’s arms leading them both into a scorching love affair. When threats are made against Belle’s life by an unknown assailant, Grant not only wants to protect her, but he feels its his duty, and now working for Red Stone Security, he will do whatever it takes to keep her safe, especially knowing full well how he truly feels for a woman who captivated his heart so long ago. When Belle is kidnapped, Grant races against the clock to save her and he vows to destroy the killer if he touches one hair on her head, and only prays he’s not too late to save the only woman he ever loved!……great read!

Audiobook Danger Next Door (Red Stone Security #2) by Katie Reus

What a great story! This is the second book in the Red Stone Security series, I feel this could be read as a standalone. Grant is a great character, just loved him; he’s so protective by nature and yet so vulnerable. Belle is a great character too, she’s honest, sweet, absolutely adorable. I felt because the author did such a great job with writing these characters, that I knew them as close personal friends or friends of a friend. The story kept me reading well into the night . Belle’s stalker was so unpredictable and in my opinion needed some major help. I felt the story had the prefect balance of suspense, mystery, and well written romance. Would I recommend this book to family and friends? Heck yeah! I loved everything about this couple and other characters in the story. I look forward to reading more from this series!

***I voluntarily reviewed this ARC for an honest review via NetGalley, this is my honest opinion and has not been influenced by the author, Publishers or NetGalley in anyway.*** Thank you!

Audio Danger Next Door (Red Stone Security #2) narrated by Pyper Down

After an explosion in the middle of a drugs bust left Grant horribly scarred and medically retired from the police department he has become a bit of a recluse. But when his neighbour finds herself in trouble he knows he has to help her. The attraction he feels towards Belle is intense but can she see beyond his scars to the man inside and is he brave enough to let her try?

I enjoyed the first story in this series No One to Trust and when I found out the sequel Danger Next Door was about Porter’s brother Grant I immediately purchased my copy. These brothers are the kind of alpha heroes that I love to read about – all ex-military men who now work in law enforcement or private security they are very protective of their loved ones and the women in their lives. They can come across as a little overbearing at times but they have hearts of gold and they want to look after the women they love not just control them. I really loved Porter but I have to say that I think Grant has knocked him off the top spot for my favourite Caldwell brother! He is just so sweet and sexy at the same time. He received his injuries in the bravest way possible – protecting someone else from harm – and I hated that he felt embarrassed by the scaring. I could understand why he had lost his confidence but I wanted him to realise how sexy he was.

Luckily Belle was a great heroine and I loved the way his scars were never an issue for her. She saw them more as a sign of the hero that he was and still found him incredibly attractive. Belle really was the perfect heroine for Grant and I loved watching the way things developed between them. I also really enjoyed the storyline, I was genuinely concerned for Belle’s safety as she continued to come under attack and I loved the way Grant looked out for her (with a little help from his family and a few friends). The story had been described as a a Beauty and the Beast re-telling but I would say that apart from the scarring and Belle’s name and beauty the story goes in it’s own direction. This is perfect for when you’re looking for a fairly quick read with a hot alpha male, a worthy heroine, a scary bad guy and some hot action. I’m really hoping that Katie Reus plans to continue this series – I’d love to read more about the third brother Harrison and I’m also very curious about the friend Travis!

How far would you go to save someone. Great hero’s aren’t made they’re born. Grant makes the ultimate sacrifice and feels he’s lost the chance of love forever. Badly scarred he thinks his beautiful neighbour would be repulsed by him. Her life becomes a nightmare when she’s stalked by a serial killer. Grant saves the day and the nights well let’s just say they’re taken care of too. Good continuity of the story. Off to read the next one. Good value.
