Unfortunately, this book wasn\’t for me. Let\’s start with the positives: it\’s a quick read with short chapters. There are many main characters, so everyone can find someone to sympathize with. I didn\’t really have a favourite, maybe Guil. Our POVs are Camille and Ada. Camille\’s parents were executed by the revolutionaries, she is the leader of The Battalion of the Dead using an alias, she is in hiding. Camille\’s and Ada\’s parents were friends, so they have known each other for a long time; Ada is Camille\’s lover and another member of the Battalion. This mentioned group is made of Camille\’s friends (more or less), and they try to save people who were wrongly sentenced to death by the revolutionaries. They don\’t belong to either the revolutionaries, nor the aristocrats, they play a dangerous game in the middle. Their life gets even more complicated when one of the saved girls brings in the fantasy aspect to the story. I would recommend this book to those who are interested in a YA book set at the time of the French revolution, with a hint of fantasy.

(Disclaimer: I received this book from Netgalley. This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.) Dangerous Remedy begins with an explosion. Featuring a group of outcasts, with the majority of them being queer, Dangerous Remedy is a story about found family and standing up for what\’s right. It is a book that celebrates choice and the power of our own agency. I was immediately hooked within the first chapter because of the action and intrigue – a girl with magical powers? Quickly I began to fall in love with the characters – whether it be Al\’s quirkiness, Ada\’s clever mind, Guil\’s strength, or the way Camille must deal with the burden of responsibility – and the rest was history.

Audiobook Dangerous Remedy by Kat Dunn
A fast-paced heist through French Revolution-era Paris with a diverse cast of characters, love drama and a hint of mystery. I am not a big fan of historical fiction (even in YA) but I really loved this – the action comes so thick and fast that there is no time for the plot to drag. I particularly loved the romantic plot between the two leads, and the mystery surrounding the girl in the mask, and there are some great twists that had me shocked. British fantasy YA novels are few and far between at the moment and this book is the sort of thing I\’d love to see more of in UK publishing. The sequel is out next year and I\’m so excited to see where the story goes next!

Audio Dangerous Remedy narrated by Flora Montgomery
What I loved about this book was the exploration of family, the small betrayals and the big ones ( the ones you see coming and the ones you dont ) What i also really loved was every character is allowed to be flawed, none of them are perfect by any means ( Except maybe Guil, my perfect boy ) I cant recommend this book enough. I couldnt put it down from the minute I picked it up.

Excellent historical fantasy set in revolutionary Paris. Fantastic characters and a beautifully realised world. The story is rich in historical detail (obviously well researched). Its a joy to explore the sights (and smells) of the city in the time of La Terreur. A bit Scarlet Pimpernel, a bit Frankenstein and a lot of fun. Recommended!
