Dawn’s Family Feud (The Baby-Sitters Club #64)

This is a great book. Jeff comes home to Connecticut to visit his mom, Dawn, Mary Anne, Richard, and his friends. One comment leads to another, and soon they are on a disastrous trip to Boston. *SPOILERS BELOW*

I liked how they all made up in the end, and framed the two different pictures, one mad and one happy family portrait.

This is a great book! I would recommend this to kids 8-13. Ann M. Martin, I love you! Five-star book.

This is a really good book

As a homeschool parent, I was always on the lookout for the next book or book series that would really get one of my kids reading. Of course, interests vary, so book choices need to be tailored to each individual child.

When my older daughter discovered The Baby-Sitters Club books, I knew I was onto something. I must have bought 100 of these books, all of which she devoured. She also reread many of them. At that age, anything that gets them reading and keeps them reading is a win. From that perspective, I can highly recommend these books.

My daughter loved them so much that she was never willing to part with them. She now teaches fourth grade and took the books to her classroom!

One of the characters has Type I Diabetes. While I applaud inclusion of any character with a disability in childrens books, mistakes were made. We know this because my younger daughter has Type I Diabetes. But even that proved educational because we discussed the diabetes situations as they arose.

Dawn, Jeff, Sharon, Maryanne and Richard are all at odds after Jeff’s visit from California. Simultaneously, some of the BSC members have to put up with the problems between the Barrett children and the children of their Mom’s new boyfriend Franklin. Some interesting historical stuff during the Boston trip. Appearances by the Pike triplets; no appearances by Logan. Good one to read to see the dynamics of Mary Anne and Dawn’s friendship. This is a winning series.

I am glad that Ann got the issue of family rivalry out in the open. I was a middle child among two other strong-willed children and the fights between Dawn, Jeff and Mary Anne sounded sooo familiar! I fought like heck with my brother and sister. My parents were driven half mad! I chuckled in spite of myself; kids fight over the silliest things and Ann has a gift of mixing a little black humor in with the strife. Good going, Ann!
However I think that Dawn and Jeff are spoiled brats who didn’t get enough, if any, spankings in their life. I would have taken them both to the “woodshed”. They were very rude to their stepfather who was trying very hard to get to know them!
