Defiant Queen

Defiant Queen audiobook free

After finishing Ruthless King, I immediately wanted to pick up Defiant Queen because of that dang cliffhanger, but I held off and read some other books. I wish I had read the books back-to-back, but life happens. I had to hold off for a month. Now, I need to read the third and final book in the Mount Trilogy because there was another cliffhanger at the end of the second book. Meghan March, I usually have mixed feelings for cliffhangers because my anxiety can’t handle cliffhangers. I would be chewing on my nails and waiting for the trilogy’s next book if I had read these books when they were first released. I’m glad I’m reading this trilogy when it’s completed.

Storyline/My Thoughts: I love this trilogy by Meghan March and now have made it my mission to read ALL her books. I printed out her long book list and will start on the other books after I finish with Keira and Lachlan’s trilogy.

Defiant Queen audiobook Series Shifters Unbound

My first thought as I finished this book? Oh hell no, you did NOT just do that to me Meghan March!! I need Sinful Empire NOW, argh!

Defiant Queen picks up right after the surprising closing moments of Ruthless King, and Keira’s world has just been rocked yet again. She was furious with Mount before, but once she gets over the initial shock, she is ready to kick him in painful places and consequences be damned. When he shows up in a fury of his own, they predictably clash but there is a different outcome this time around that ends with Mount escorting her back to his home rather than the apartment she has been staying in.

And the surprises just keep coming! The theme of this second installment is all about change. Keira is struggling to accept her changing reality as she comes to the realization that Mount has no intention of making their arrangement temporary. On one hand she is an independent and smart business woman, but on the other hand he has taken over her life and she can’t deny the hidden part of her soul that craves it more than she fears it. Her sole source of sanity is her best friend Magnolia, but she doesn’t help the situation with a few more revelations that add to Keira’s confusion.

Mount is in quite a twist himself. He has built his reputation as a man to be feared and obeyed without question upon a base of actions that back it up, but people are starting to notice that he is acting out of character when it comes to Keira Kilgore. And that means life has just gotten a little more dangerous for both of them. His place of power is cemented by the fact that he is in control at all times, and she makes him feel – and act- out of control more and more often. She is becoming a weakness and a distraction, and that is a very huge problem that paints a target on both of them. Normally distractions are dealt with and summarily disposed of, but he cannot shake the feeling that he has finally found a woman with the strength of spirit and character who can stand by his side to help rule his empire. Of course he just has to convince her to see him as anything other than a monster if he has any hope of finding out if he is right.

We get to see a different side of Mount in this story, and it’s one that no one else is ever allowed to see- except Keira. I couldn’t help but chuckle at his discomfort when a few acquaintances who are probably the closest thing he has to friends try to offer him advice on how to “woo” her properly, but when he focuses all his attention on a problem he is a force to be reckoned with. He takes the advice to heart and it leads to a few days neither of them will ever forget. They have some seriously scorching hot moments throughout this book and they even have a little bit of fun, but all too soon it is time to get back to reality- and BAM! That ending… yeah, I really need that last book now! Meghan March continues to impress me with this series and I am eagerly counting down the days until Sinful Empire is in our hot little hands!

Audiobook Defiant Queen by Cris Dukehart

This is the second part of the trilogy. You get to really know Mount more in this book, and understand why he’s as ruthless and dark as he is, as it’s written from both his and Kiera’s perspective. Mount starts to treat Kiera differently and not just as his property, as he does this he begins to drop his guard down around her and she begins to see the whole him not just the imagine he portrays to people. As much as Kiera tries to fight it, she begins to fall for him. Just as they begin to both let each other in, things take a turn for the worst and then….the book ends on a huge cliffhanger !!! On to the last book to find out what happens.

Audio Defiant Queen narrated by Cris Dukehart

At the end of the first book Keira fled Lachlan Mounts home and returned to her flat ,where she discovered some knowledge very unsettling to her . Keira’s was confronted by a ghost from the past this ghost was corporeal and very much alive and issuing threats towards her family if she didn’t comply with his wishes , thankfully the ghost is finally dealt with but not before he imparting some interesting information to Mount . In this book we learn quite a bit of what happened to Lachlan during his childhood and how his upbringing or lack of it shaped the ruthless violent man he’s become , that’s until his “acquisition” of Keira and clearly his actions towards her do not mirror what he’s been like in the past with other women and certain people are noticing . You can also see Keira’s attitude towards him soften a little as well , especially as he arranged a surprise trip for them to attend the whiskey convention in Dublin something that Keira has longed to attend . With the story ending on another massive cliff hanger goodness only knows what the third book will bring ……. can’t wait !!!

Meghan is such a phenomenal author. Her stories are imaginative, well written, descriptive and always action packed with human emotions that leave you exhausted yet refreshed. This series is superb. Defiant Queen leads straight on from the last episode’s cliffhanger. We have no doubt that Mount is a dominant, in all senses of the word. An Alpha male throughout, who has found his mate in Keira, however more is required. She still must pay the debt, but is totally unaware that her true love is the man in front of her. Is she Mounts Achilles Heel. We see a softer side of the tough rogue, and a weakening of the non confirming heroine. Another cliffhanger awaits, and a few weeks of biting finger nails until the follow up, and third book in this series. An excellent novel, by an outstanding author. I feel I know both of the two main characters well and cannot get enough of them.
