Kidding about the heading, it’s the only Irish I know. Though I am diligently working the phrase, `taking agin’ into my daily speech. (I’m taking agin my family who keeps telling me to knock it off.)
Mammy had me when talking about her next-door neighbors, the Kilfeathers: “Lovely people. We are terrific pals, of course. And yet, I find that I very much hate Mrs. Kilfeather.” Which makes me love Mammy that much more.
“They say the Eskimos have a hundred words for snow, but we Irish seem to have at least a hundred for the state of being intoxicated.” Mammy is hilaire, as Helen would say, and is a woman after my own heart in the kitchen, in C is for Cooking.
From tales of the Jolly Boys and those hideous Feathery Strokers, (public enemy number one), Mammy and her girls feel like part of the family. From A-Z, we get highlights of all five Walsh girls and their exploits, and Mammy even shares sweet stories about her grandchildren, and by sweet I mean nightmare. (Her word, not mine!)
Mammy Walsh is such a superstar. (Does Amazon sell the Eeejit Stick yet?) I applaud her infatuation with Slicers! and the women who wear them. Though I had to Google Padre Pio and Cornetto (stupid American), I laughed aloud at the V is for Vajazzling scene, especially when Mammy can’t resist reminding Helen: “When you think about it,” I said, happy as you please, “I must have done it at least five times!'” Brilliant! Marian Keyes does the best dialogue on the planet!
Thank you, Marian Keyes,
I fangirl double-heart xoxo you!

This is a great epilogue of sorts to the Walsh sisters series. You get a bit of insight to each of the characters’ lives, plus we have the added voice of Mammy Walsh. It’s fantastic. Not only do we learn more about the matriarch’s life (a few tidbits), but we also get into her head and see everything through her eyes.
It’s Keyes being fantastic, and if you liked the series, you’ll enjoy this one as well.
Warning: There are a few spoilers here, so if you haven’t read some of the books (Rachel’s Holiday, Anybody out there?, Angels, Watermelon or The Mystery of Mercy Close), wait until you do.
It’s great to catch up on everyone and to see where they are a few years later, to revisit the grown up Kate and the third generation of Walshes.
My only complain is that it’s too short, but I get that that’s the idea here: just an A to Z.
It’s worth your time, money, and attention.

Audiobook Mammy Walsh’s A-Z of the Walsh Family by Marian Keyes
I’ve read many of her books and find them insightful and great fun to read. Marian Keyes was my introduction to ‘chic-lits’ that I read many of in 2010 and 2011. My first Keyes book was ‘Watermelon’ where this young woman cries for the first half of this quite thick book….
‘Mammy Walsh’s A-Z’ seems intended to bring her characters together so that we can all make sense of them. Frankly it isn’t so great in my opinion.
It’s not a big book so when I say I haven’t finished it though I started it several months ago, you already have my opinion. There’s just too much ‘Walsh’ stuff in it; in other words, no real story.
So if you need or want to make sense of the family she writes about in her various books, I guess this is it.
It’s quite unnecessary though.

Audio Mammy Walsh’s A-Z of the Walsh Family narrated by Caroline Lennon
If you ever wondered about the matriarch of the Walsh clan here she is in all her glory! I’m so happy to read a book that is more than a few paragraphs from her perspective! If you were wondering about an A to Z of her point of view this is a great read!

You don’t actually read this book, you listen to Mrs. Walsh talk as if you were sitting at her kitchen table having tea . You hear her matter of fact account of her daughters’ lives and you literally laugh out loud. Her way of phrasing things and conversational tone make it hard to find a stopping point . How can you leave and possibly miss another good story? Marian Keyes is a master of characterization! This book was an absolutely delightful experience .
