Darn you Christina Dodd! What have you done . . . again? I loved Families and Other Enemies and was settled in for the night to read. THEN . . . nothing. I wanted this book to go on and on, at least for a couple more hours. But no. Instead I got the biggest tease an author has ever given for her next book! I love that you are showing us much more insight into Kellen even if she can’t remember a year of her life. I love that Kellen is learning more about the person she doesn’t know but wants to. I cannot wait for What Doesn’t Kill Her and of course it’s pre-ordered because it’s a Christina Dodd book. Now I just have too long to wait for it! Okay, so the end of January really isn\’t all that long.

I didn\’t pay much attention to the fact that there were novellas between each book so was kinda lost when I started the second novel. However, that passed as I kept reading. For this one, a bit of a tangent, but with Kellen\’s fear of getting close to anyone not part of her old unit, I can see why some catalyst was needed to move her in the right direction. She was avoiding her child. I can definitely see the shock would have something to do with it and understand not being sure of Max, but Rae? I don\’t know if I could ever avoid my child. Nervous, a little scared I\’m going to say or do the wrong things? Absolutely, but I would want to try. At the end, this novella was about getting Kellen to learn to face that fear before she misses out on so much more than she already has. Ralph, Sophia, and Bridget did and things will be somewhat better, and worse. Poor Ralph. As a role model, Kellen could definitely learn from his mistakes and all the things he did to redeem himself. At least it did show her that she\’s a runner and needs to man up and she starts with Aunt Cora.

Audiobook Families and Other Enemies (Cape Charade #1.5) by Christina Dodd
What a fantastic interlude, bridge, and prelude to the next full length Cape Charade novel. With the summary of Kellen/Ceecee’s past, a trip to Las Vegas to see Aunt Cora, followed by a stay in Virtue Falls, Washington, there is a brief look at her future found in this novella, as she gathers the courage to face it. I loved it!

Audio Families and Other Enemies (Cape Charade #1.5) narrated by Vanessa Johansson
Will Kellen be able to put her past behind her? How will she tell the only family she has left, the truth of what happened? Christina Dodd does a fantastic job as usual twisting suspense with a light at the end of the tunnel.

The goal of a short story is to lure you in and make you wish there was more to read. Christina Dodd absolutely accomplishes that goal with this book. If you haven\’t read any of her Virtue Falls series or Cape Charade series, then you definitely are missing out on some of the best suspense novels ever written. In fact, if you haven\’t read anything by Christina Dodd, then you are missing out on one of the most talented novelists of the romance/romantic suspense genre.
