Happy & You Know It

I tend to really enjoy contemporary fiction that acts as a commentary on motherhood and mom culture in particular, so I was really looking forward to this book. That said, the characters are exaggerated, the main character is a dislikable bumbling idiot for whom the narrator also gives needless vocal fry, and I cringed at the number of times she said what? When she was asked a question by basically anybody. There were a few likable moments, but I definitely reached a point at which the main character was just far too much of a busybody for me to maintain my interest. The author made A valiant attempt at narration, but when taking on some of the characters, she took on this giddy frantic voice that just became exhausting to listen to. I dont typically like writing bad reviews but this book was painful.

If youre in the mood for that, then this is good but its not near great. I felt nothing for characters at end and it barely kept my attention throughout.

I cant think of anyone who might find this book fun or interesting. Its full of clichs. I couldnt make myself finish it.

My boyfriend and I just drove from NYC to Santa Fe, and this book kept us entertained and awake the whole way. This was actually the first audiobook Ive ever listened to (other audiobooks made me fall asleep). The author narrated it herself and did a great acting job with the many characters especially Amara and Whitney. I laughed out loud a bunch. We basically binged it, and I hope itll be a tv series or movie too!!!

Such a fun listen! Love the different voices! Definitely helps keep everyone straight! So many dimensions to each character! Such unexpected depth!
