Hard Rock Heat (Darkest Days #5)

Lost my first review update. I’ll try to hang on to this one. It’s been quite a few years since I’ve read an Athena Wright Rock Band romance. Well-overdue! I was fortunate to receive an ARC as an excuse for me to get back to her delightful stories. The opinions I express here most definitely my own.

On to the story. We have four main characters, two sets of twins. This is the story of the older (wiser?) of the twins, Damon Drake and Faith Briars. Damon and his younger twin brother, Ian are guitarists in the wildly popular band, Darkest Day. Faith is an event planner hoping to soon get a promotion. She is a bit OCD, but with the number of details needing to be kept track of at one time, that is probably practically a job description. Three of her four interns did not show, just her faithful Kat. Faith puts out an SOS to her sister Hope for help. Hope is happy to lend a hand or two. Along with her comes Hope’s boyfriend, Ian, the youngest twin and along with him came his male whore twin, Damon. To say that Faith and Damon do not get along is an understatement. He has a new girl in his bed each night and she is looking for a relationship. They are both tall handsome, muscular and musically talented. Ian is firmly committed to a relationship with Hope. Damon seems to be firmly committed to a one-night relationship with as many women as he can manage.

Damon keeps pestering Faith all evening, but at the end of the evening offers to help stack the tables and chairs and help with the cleanup. Yes, he has ulterior motives. Faith thanks him for his help and then blows him off.

Next week, Faith finds out that she is to put together an enormous charity event to aid homeless and at risk teen and young adults. The sponsor, Damon Drake. And, the fun begins.

Both elder twins are hiding secrets from their twins to ‘protect’ them. At the end of the story, they each help the other to stand a bit taller, grow a bit wiser, and Damon and Faith are most definitely in love. HEA! Now to go back and read book #1

I’ve loved this entire series and each book has gotten even better. So it’s no surprise that this 5th book, the story of final member of Darkest Days, Damon, is the best. He and Faith have off the charts chemistry but there’s more substance as well. Every story has been rooted to real life issues and this book is no exception. You’ll laugh, cry, and get turned on all in one read! The writing in each book continues to get better and Athena Wright continues to evolve as a writer and storyteller. I would highly recommend this book and series. This book can be a true stand alone but don’t deprive yourself the joy of the rest of these sexy, bad but oh so good rockers.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book but I also bought the book because I love everything written by this author! Her rock star stories are amazing. I can’t even pick a favorite because I love them all; Darkest Days, Feral Gaze, and now Cherry Lips. Books about rock stars are my favorites anyway and Athena makes them come alive in all their splendor and faults! This book is about Damon Drake, the last member of Darkest Days to be written about, the other twin guitarist. The young woman, Faith, he is diligently pursuing just happens to be the twin sister of Damon’s twin brother Ian’s girlfriend Hope. Got that? Hope Briars is fiance of Ian Drake. Damon Drake is pursuing Faith Briars. But Faith thinks Damon is too flirty, a commitment-phobe, a one-night-stand-er, and although he’s gorgeous, hot, smart and funny, he is not for her. He’s also egotistical, narcissistic, and a jerk. When you read the book, you’ll encounter many more descriptive terms she has for him. She can’t stop thinking about him, but she won’t be a notch. The thing is, he won’t leave her alone. He even approaches her firm, and requests her, personally, to coordinate an extremely important fundraiser for him. That’s trust and confidence. Can she ever believe he actually cares for her? With his track record? Read this captivating story that you will NOT be able to put down.

Damon was over the top sexual throughout the entire series. I was not sure he would ever settle down, he loved his Rock Star life way too much. We saw how upset he was when his brother fell in love, did not know how to take his attitude about it. He slowly realizes that he could love and be loved and the he is possibly already in love. It took some time but with all the antics and angst he goes through with Faith, but he redeems himself. or should I say they both do. Faith and Damon have an undeniable chemistry. Super hot and sexy. They were two people who could not be more opposite. Guess the saying is true for these two; Opposites Attract.
Loved this book and the others in this series. Athena Wright has done it again. It is nice to see group of Rockers and their women who would protect each other, stand up for one another and love like a family.

I have loved all of Athena Wrights rocker books to date and Hard Rock Heat is high up there on my list. She really knows how to write fabulous and lovable characters and does so brilliantly with the much anticipated story of Damon and Faith. You come to love all of Damons crazy antics from the beginning of the series so getting to know more about him was absolutely great. Add in all the elements of a great story such as love, drama, friendship and even a little bit of heartbreak and you have yourself a perfect read. I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review.
