Heart of a Dragon (Fallen Immortals #2)

Much like the first book in this series, the pacing was good, the action was fun, and the romance was hot. Unlike the first book, the main female lead showed her \”Dog the bounty hunter\” side and the main male lead went a bit Kylo Ren on us. I mean, I suppose it was nice to watch the woman pursue for a whilr…but seriously, the moody brooding really killed the mood. In addition, can we stop the trend of romantic movies and books taking successful career women and making them give it up just to be married? I mean, there is more to life than good sex and love. Clearly she was fulfilled by her job. And it is hard to imagine someone going through 7 years of higher education, a horrific 2 day exam which takes months to study for, and the fright of both being a solo practitioner AND paying back student loans to just give it all up for love. So yeah, except for the brooding, awkward pursuits, and clear flippancy towards the legal profession and professional women in general, the book was good.

The first book caught my interest. This second book ? pissed me off I stopped reading it over halfway through. The stuoid male lead keeps whining and running ? away. Yes its understood how he lost he\’s first wife. To let that stop him from a second chance, and the way he sabatoges the relationship with almost cheating, and finally putting himself in his own gave. What did it for me is he\’s so desperate to avoid he\’s dealing he wants vampires to kill him. If a man refuses to right for a relationship then its time to move on. As Lucian said damn the world. Oh girl needs to damn the relationship ? and move on instead of stupidly chasing after him through all those rejections. She\’s keeps taking he\’s crap no dignity!!

Ms. Woods refers to her series as a “paranormal fairytale romance” and I believe that fairytale and romance are indeed good keywords. Like all good fairytales there is a smoking hot prince, (in fact quite a few princes) in search of his princess. Of course , his princess does not seem to be a princess at first, just an ordinary human female trying to stay alive in the city of Seattle. Also like most fairytales there is magic, a quest to save the world, fairies good and bad and to make things interesting, dragons , angels and demons too. As far as romance goes, the underlying theme of the books is whether or not True Love exists and can love really conquer all. Also be warned, this fairytale is definitely not meant for children’s bedtime, as it has numerous steamy sex scenes as only love between dragons and humans can be! Book 1 Kiss of a Dragon, Alisa Woods introduces the hero, Lucian Smoke, Crown Dragon Prince of the House of Smoke. Hard to belief that anyone so hot could be already 500 years old, but Prince Lucian is close to dying, unless he meets his “True Love” and begets a dragonling. To make matters more pressing, if he fails in this quest, a very old treaty that protects humanity from the immortal world of the dark Fae will expire and mortals may fall prey to demons. However, a dragon’s mate rarely survives the birth of a young dragon and Lucian refuses to be responsible for the death of another woman. He rescues Arabella from a demon roaming the streets of Seattle and decides to try to seduce her , without losing his heart, before he turns into a beast and the treaty is broken forever. I bet you don’t need a crystal ball, to know how well that works out! Lucian and Arabella’s adventure continue in book 2 Heart of a Dragon. It is here that Alisa Woods, explores the idea of what is “True Love” and if you can truly love a person, warts and all, without ever doubting that love is real. Lucian and Arabella are forever being tested and it does seem like they are the proverbial star-crossed lovers. But again, if love is true then doesn’t it always conquer every obstacle thrown at it? I love that Alisa Woods has such believable characters. Yes, the hero is dragon-fire hot , a billionaire and a prince. Yet, he is also broken, with flaws and tendency to let his heart and soul get in the way of his good judgement. And the heroine, is not some damsel in distress just waiting for a prince to sweep in and make life beautiful. Arabella is a complete person with strength in character and able to take care of herself in many situations. Yet together, like any good romance reader will tell you, love between soulmates, has a magic that always makes the couple stronger together then they are apart. Each book ends with a cliffhanger, sometimes literally. But don’t fear like all good fairytales there is happily ever after waiting at the end.

Heart Of A dragon is Not as good as Kiss of a Dragon bk.1 in the Fallen Immortals series. I would call this part 2 of a 3 part story. The story opens with Lucian walking or flying away from Arabella after she declares her undying love for him. She lets him know she wants him to seal her with his mating bond so she can carry his dragonling baby!! Yeah!! Yeah!! I know its sounds out there but the stories are pretty good if you like Fantasy Romance. Now its Lucian\’s turn to run away from the relationship because his first mate Cara died a horrible death trying to give birth to his dragonling baby. Lucian loves Arabella too much to let her try and mate with him. He feels he couldn\’t bare it if she died. So he does every stupid thing you can think of like seeking out other women, which he couldn\’t have sex with in the end. But this was real stupid. All women remind him of his love of Arabella. Lucian is constantly trying to sabotage there relationship. What I didn\’t like was the beginning with the Introduction of the Vampires and making them so weak and lowly type of creatures. I love Vampires in a good romance. So this didn\’t work for me. The other thing I didn\’t like was Lucian is constantly getting his butt kicked by Zephan the Fae Prince. The Fae seem to be the superior, however, Evil Immortals in this series. I like it when the Evil Villain of the story is the weaker opponent and get there butt kicked and good set down. Zephan is always the winner in any battle he smarter and quicker with his magic and stronger then Lucian even though Lucian is part fae and part dragon. This just made me angry. I want to say to the author Alisa Woods you always make the hero of your story the stronger one and he does all the butt kicking. Not so in this case. Which is why I am giving Heart of a Dragon 3 Stars instead of 4 stars. Part 3 or bk.3 Fire of a Dragon is up next. Lets hope the baby dragoling makes it into the world. Reading Progress

Wow loving this series, this second book cemented both Lucien’s and Arabella feelings. I won’t go into spoiler details but there is so much angst, Lucien’s feelings are so hard to take, his despair over what he needs to do over what he feels is so heartbreaking but has he found that one woman who will see through his heartbreak and love him truly??? Great story, plot, writing, some small grammatical errors but nothing worrisome. Amazing love scenes, some hot sex, lots of angst, great backstory and great characters. Can’t wait to read number 3.
