Her Three Lives

It all starts out with Greg Hamlin, a principal in a major architectural firm, engaging Jade Thompson, an interior designer and internet influencer, who is 20 years younger than Greg Hamlin. Greg is going through a messy divorce with wife Leah, leaving also two relatively mature offspring who are disgruntled. Jade\’s mother Abigay is not enthused about this relationship, either. Normally this sort of setup would not get my attention, but then a violent home invasion into Greg\’s rental unit takes place, leaving Jade injured, her pregnancy in peril, and Greg with a serious brain injury. So now this develops into a thriller which features, among other things, Jade\’s secret meetings with her imprisoned father, and with a father whose son was murdered by Jade\’s father in a crossfire during a botched drug deal that turned into a violent shootout, and a police investigation. But Greg is onto Jade\’s seeming deceptive tactics- in part thanks to an elaborate security system he installs on his new house. Conflicts abound- families torn apart- and all of this constantly reverts to the violent home invasion that left lives in shambles. It doesn\’t take long into this book to want to NOT put it down! This well-written thriller features well crafted characters and a plot that will leave the reader guessing until the various twists towards the end. Recommended.

My Thoughts: From the very beginning of Her Three Lives, I felt empathy for the position Jade is in, with a paranoid husband who seems to be tracking her every move. Why is he so suspicious of her? He seems to be projecting his own issues onto her. Will she be able to turn things around, or will things only get worse? As the story takes us back and forth between the characters, their suspicions, and the unfolding of what happened during the home invasion and afterwardswe can finally turn the last page to the answers. 4 stars.

Starts off with quite literally a bang (or a thwack!) and the tension keeps building from there. Holahan excells at story telling from multiple POV here such that you don\’t know if what you are reading is real or a fabrication pieced together by a physically traumatized and deeply paranoid man. I rooted for Jade from page 1, who constantly endures being the subject of suspicion and has her motives cruelly questioned all because she doesn\’t seem to fit some aesthetic dreamed up by Greg\’s terrible children. Without giving too much away, I couldn\’t put it down and raced through the many secrets, lies, delusions, and revenge plots to reach a very satisfying ending. Great read! I\’ve been enjoying Holahan\’s books for years now and can\’t wait to read what new twist she has in store for the lies and betrayal loving, suspense seeking crowd.

I was hooked on this book from the first chapter. From there, it\’s a real who dunnit and you almost think you know. I admit, I was on the right track at first but then, plot twist. Hmmm… just what is Jade really up to and why?

I saw this book advertised on goodreads and decided to order it. I loved it! It is the first book that Ive read by Cate Holahan and I enjoyed it very much. It starts off with the home invasion and continues to build the suspense as to who was behind the attack. It has a logical and satisfying conclusion.
