Amazingly written, Svenja ODonnell uncovered her own personal questions. While doing so she gives us insight into the struggles of the young, elderly and quiet citizens that many of us have overlooked. I couldnt put this one down. I am recommending this to many of my neighbors and friends of German ancestry. I found this book through a review in the Minneapolis Star Tribune written by Laurie Hertzel. She happens to be a co- author of a 1992 book that I stumbled across. I would like to recommend to ODonnell for reading. In which this book answered questions I wondered about through stories our Minnesota elderly friends talked about. They Took My Father / Finnish Americans in Stalins Russia by Mayme Sevander with Laurie Hertzel Thank-You Svenja ODonnell for sharing yourself and family with us.

Audiobook Inge’s War: A German Woman’s Story of Family, Secrets, and Survival Under Hitler by Svenja O’Donnell
I loved this book and story, unfolding the secret of one woman\’s past in East Prussia, former Germany, in the years around WWII. It reads both like a detective story and a personal discovery, alternating family history and documented segways on what people really lived through wartime Germany, especially the untold fate of women. The writing is vivid, captivating and subtle. A great adventure, highly recommended.

Audio Inge’s War: A German Woman’s Story of Family, Secrets, and Survival Under Hitler narrated by Kristin Atherton
While this book is about a very special family secret, it illuminates pre war Eastern European Konigsbergs \’daily life as well as the ultimate destruction of a way of life that no longer exists for anyone with Eastern European ancestry. Excellent retelling.

This book chronicles the life of a young girl born in Koningsburg of East Prussia prior to WWII and her survival to old age. I found it fascinating although filled with sadness in the postwar Europe. It reveals what it was like to live during that time.
