Thank the gods, this was an enjoyable read! I slogged through the previous two installments of this trilogy out of a sense of obligation to Feist’s universe, and because I think they may get referenced in future books. They were not fun to read at all. However this book returned me to a writing style that more closely resembles that of the author working solo, which is what I was looking for when I bought it.

It flows through plot events and character development at a very Feist-like pace and with his usual expository flair without getting bogged down in clunky structure that makes me want to get out a red pen.

Jimmy the Hand audiobook in series Legends of the Riftwar

Here’s the thing. If you know Jimmy from the other books you have a head start and that’s a good thing. You don’t need to it just helps. An interesting change and a good read. Not one of the best but raises some issues not usually seen in these books. It also sort of seems to round out Some of Jimmy the Hand’s background and development as a person. In that sense it’s a good read. I enjoyed it overall.

Audiobook Jimmy the Hand by Raymond E. Feist S.M. Stirling

First off, taking Jimmy out of the city of krondor for an adventure was less than adventurous. Just not enough going on from that point of view and secondly as a major theme of the book sacrificing children in blood rituals, are you freaking kidding me.? Disgusting, repulsive and intimately stomach-churning.

Audio Jimmy the Hand narrated by Matt Bates

So far this is the best book of the Legends of Riftwar series, though none are tied together and are only snippets from Midkemia during the war (not through reading yet). Stirling does a good job continuing Feist’s Jimmy the Hand’s character even though story is different as is the writing. Of course, this book is the one most closely tied to the legend because it involves one of the main characters. I’d recommend this book out of the series if you are only considering one and if you want a break from Feist.
