In this latest addition to the Detective D.D. Warren series, a tragic incident unfolds as an entire family is ruthlessly gunned down, leaving only one missing daughter and their beloved old, blind family dogs. With the responsibility of finding the youth and unraveling the case resting on D.D. and the Boston police, they find an unexpected ally in Flora Dane, a former abduction victim turned vigilant.
While the premise of the book held promise, it unfortunately did not become a personal favorite of mine. The story felt somewhat repetitive and slow, hindering its full potential. I’d rate it three stars

The story is replete with heart-wrenching moments, and though there aren’t too many happy times, it leaves a powerful impact.
As I read, I couldn’t help but wish I possessed the power to bring about change within the system, but I am aware that such a task lies beyond my reach. However, I remain hopeful that there are compassionate souls out there who can make a difference and positively impact the lives of these vulnerable children.

Dieses Buch hat mich wirklich berührt. Manchmal war es vielleicht ein wenig langatmig, und das Ende war vorhersehbar – daher ist es in Bezug auf die Kriminalgeschichte nicht das beste Buch der Serie. Doch was Hintergrundgeschichten, Charaktere und Emotionen angeht, ist es herausragend. Am Ende musste ich sogar einige Tränen zurückhalten.
