First, I love this book. I have lived it since I was ba teen. However. Can we PLEASE have consistency in how character/place/tribe names are pronounced in the overall Valdemar universe? If that is too much (as it obviously is), can we at LEAST have consistency within the same series, read by the same narrator? Or even in the same book?? The narrator actually used the correct Ashkevron name maybe 3 times in this book, other times going back to the mispronunciation he used in the first book of the series (he kept saying \”Ashkrevon\” instead of the correct \”Ashkevron\”). It is distracting and frustrating. the narrator also skipped words a couple times, which was also frustrating. Additionally, narrators should probably match tone to description explicitly mentioned in the book. IE, if someone is to have whispered a phrase or said it in a gentle tone, maybe don\’t read that phrase in the same voice as you read everything else.

First read this when it came out and I was a teenager. Still as heart wrenching and fascinating and spellbinding as then.

Audiobook Magic\’s Promise by Mercedes Lackey
Things are happening on the borders of Valdemar, and Herald Mage Vanyel Askevron needs a vacation after holding the place of Five Herald Mages all on his own. His family may be stressful, but at least he won\’t be battling dark wizards and demons… Family members not withstanding. This is a story 12 years after the events of Magic\’s Pawn. Van still hasn\’t forgotten about Tylendel and he is battleworn. Vanyel and Yfandes are planning to relax and recharge. A nice middling, almost slice-of-life story between two heart-wrenching novels. Just enjoy Van et al.

Read this many years ago and it\’s still wonderful. Love the whole mystery of Tashir and the death of the House. My heart aches for Vanyel.
