I made it almost halfway and just couldnt do it anymore. No humour or laugh out loud parts. 90% of it is inner thoughts, the deep soul searching kind. No chemistry between the main characters. The ex is described as a slouchy, dad bod jerk loser and Bridget is apparently the most beautiful, successful, intelligent, take no crap woman on the planet. Doesn’t make any sense at all. I’m honestly bummed about my lost $10.

I enjoyed Not The Girl You Marry so much when I read it earlier this year and didn’t even realize that the characters in this book were connected.
This book is about Bridget and Matt – two people who could not have come from a more different background. They meet when Matt is Bridget’s intern at her law office and they figure out pretty quickly that they are attracted to each other, but don’t want to do anything while they work together.
I think the intention was that they weren’t supposed to see each other again, but they end up in Vegas for a weekend and end up getting together. I feel like I got to know Bridget really well in this book, but only a glimpse of Matt (except for his overbearing mother), but I wish I had seen more of the “forbidden love” aspect of their relationship when they worked together. That would have helped me buy into their story a little bit more. I also couldn’t figure out their ages, so some of the storyline didn’t seem realistic.
Bridget was hung up on an old relationship for so much of the book, I didn’t feel like I ever really understood why she couldn’t move on. She had a lot of hang ups of who she could/was supposed to be in a relationship based on an old love and how her mother was as a wife – but that contrasted so starkly with how she was with the other people in her life and in her work.
Overall, 3 stars.

Audiobook Not That Kind of Guy by Andie J. Christopher
I really wish publishers would stop advertising books as ‘delightful romantic comedy’ when they’re absolutely not that. Or maybe I should stop falling for their false advertisements. It’s a conundrum.
Anyway, the blurb sounded promising: hot young lawyer wheedles her hot rich summer intern into posing as her date for her brother’s wedding rehearsal. Her obnoxious ex is there and says obnoxious things so the two get drunk and marry in Vegas.
Bridget is really just a hot mess and Matt is mostly too, despite his cooler demeanor. They mostly want to get laid but stay together because….reasons, I dunno. There was no witty banter or any chemistry between them. The supporting characters were mostly not nice people, but at least it was a quick read. There’s a lot of repetition so you can skip over parts. And let’s not forget the Irish and Asian stereotyping.
I think I’m being generous with the stars because it should have been a better book. I’m sure other people think it was great – just not for me.

Audio Not That Kind of Guy narrated by Allyson Ryan
Bridget is a hard-as-nails State Attorney, pouring all her passion into her work. Shes also sworn off relationships after a longtime relationship imploded.
Matt is a handsome young intern who works for her over the summer, reeling from a breakup himself. After his internship is over, they spend a weekend in Vegas together at her brother and his fiancs bachelorette and bachelor party.
I loved both of the main characters in this book as well as the supporting cast from the previous book, Not the Girl You Marry. However, this book can be read as a stand alone.

I was hesitant to read this at first, because I find superior-employee relationships problematic in a lot of ways. However, Christopher managed to make that dynamic temporary and platonic for the duration of the employment. I really enjoyed this novel, but it took me half the book to realize it was the “sequel” (in the way some romances are) to “Not the Girl You Marry”! The Dolans are truly an a fun clan, although the characterization of the brothers were different (I guess obviously) from Bridget’s POV. I’m glad I read it despite my initial misgivings, and will be on the lookout for the next book for the Dolan family!
