I’m not here to recap the book, you can find that elsewhere. I’m here to tell you why you should invest your spare time reading this series. If you’ve read my review of book one you can skip ahead because I don’t really have anything new to say, just want the author to have some honest reviews in return for his hard work putting pen to paper.

I read a lot of post-apocalypse fiction. Most writers suck at it. Their scenarios are rather far fetched, their characters are cookie cutter preppers I could never relate to if we were face to face, and the decisions their characters make are so stupid as to put them in deeper jeopardy making their professed prepper status highly questionable and making me hope Darwin got it right so I’ll never have to deal with them.

A.A.’s characters are well developed, thinking people, even the bad guys. They behave in ways that are true to their back story. Yes, they make mistakes and sometimes those mistakes have unpleasant consequences.

As of today, there are maybe 10 or more books in the series. They enter my library as soon as they are released and that’s unusual for me because my experience is that when an author pens a series beyond a certain number of books, they seem to reach a point where they’re either phoning it in to continue milking the cash cow, or they get so tired of the characters and storyline that they begin to hate what they perceive as a rut. Neither pitfall traps this series.

The story arc is such that the plot could run on for another 10 books or more provided the author continues to keep events believable. The characters are not one-note survivalists. They continue to mature and evolve as events unfold.

The author isn’t afraid to kill off a key character or two and new characters are fleshed out just as well as the ones that survive through everything.

In spite of the seriousness of the subject, the author isn’t afraid of some comic relief and there are genuine belly laughs spread throughout the series.

So far, I’ve only been mildly disappointed with one book in the series and I believe that’s because Weatherman bowed to fan pressure and turned a book out before he should have. If you pick up this series, you’ll know which one I’m referring to and I’m sure he does too. When a writer is as social media connected to their fan base as he is, and that base is screaming for the next book, that’s hard to ignore but easy to forgive.

I hope one day to write this well and have my fans clamoring for the next book.

Enforcing Home audiobook in series The Survivalist Series

One of my faves when it began!
Highly recommend the first few. Then something happened. It was like the author developed a “he-man” complex & started looking down on women & the constant 3 stooges crap is just getting so old.
What happened 2 intelligent conversation? To women taking roles more than hanging out cooking & as an occasional piece of a__ that he seems surprised 2 actually get each time. And no other couples really have any story lines or intelligent or romantic conversation either. The women could do so much more and provide so much more support and also ideas. They can also defend the place more. Seems like his & Danny’s wives r just floating n the background somewhere. They never go 2 town or anywhere! They never visit the neighbors! Nothing! They r made 2 look boring and lazy & Mel seems to lay around on the couch and smarts off as her role or is cooking.
Love the style of writing for the most part just wish the women had more of an active role n the book. They r never featured alone hanging out or doing much and r made to look like they just hang out at home and cook three meals a day.
I’m thinking maybe the author doesn’t know how to write a woman or maybe he is a little macho and thinks of his wife as his “old lady” & other women as “chicks”.
There isn’t much interesting interaction between the men and their women either that I c, just the “Same old, same old”.
I thought when the younger women started training that might change but they all seemed completely untrained & ignorant about the marketplace bomb, even though I’m pretty sure there was a warning they may try to do that. Also if someone puts a bag down and runs off, most everyone knows not to approach it & 2 evacuate and contact someone who knows what they r do I got check it out. So it just made no sense to me how that scene went down like these young ladies r naive & untrained & haven’t been through all the stuff they have n the series which should have toughened them all up by now & certainly made them suspicious.
And some of the men jokes and hassling one another is getting asinine & boring & just too much.
Not necessary & sometimes just downright rude & disgusting.
So is the torture to get people to talk. Just out of hand and disgusting & more like what the ignorant u educated punks would do, not good upright men who know right from wrong and know better than taking it as far as it has been going.
I don’t remember him starting out this way.
He either changed or is someone else writing it?
But it’s starting to really make the books boring as heck to me.
Get back to the way u used to write. Make the good men upright, decent and intelligent as well as the women. Develop the characters. Show interaction besides mucking around stupidly or torturing someone or other just plain disgusting behavior.
Develop some additional storylines to the main plot.
Give the women more time and power and strength.
Show some relationships n action n a healthy respectful dignified manner. And humor can b intelligent not “3 stoogie” every time.
Ok I don’t usually review but I guess I did today.

Audiobook Enforcing Home by A. American

Morgan is settling into his new role as sheriff and is trying to set a positive example. With the help of his family and close knit friends, they try to bring peace and a sense of normalcy to their community. But, a new group of marauders has arrived and is stirring up trouble. Not only that, but a nemesis long since thought vanquished has returned for revenge.

Americans sixth novel in The Survivalist, Enforcing Home, continues the story of Morgan, Sarge, and the clan that have settled into Morgans neighborhood. Every day brings new challenges and danger. Nothing can be taken for granted. Life is hard and not everyone is willing to do what it takes to survive. Instead, they would rather take from others.

Im embarrassed to say that somehow, I skipped from book 5 straight to book 8 without even realizing it. To me that says that A. American is a phenomenal writer.

5 out of 5 stars.

Audio Enforcing Home narrated by Duke Fontaine

The continuing tale of life after an EMP. Raising a family, building community, defending each other all while law and order break down. I hope nothing like this happens in America but the likelihood of a regional, national or even worldwide cataclysmic event, whether natural or man made increases daily. Great job, Angery American, for waking up a generation to be more situationally aware and hopefully more likely to be able to survive when it happens.
