The Other Wife

This is my first book by this author … it won’t be my last! I didn’t want to put it down. I don’t want to say too much, as there are many great twists and I don’t want to inadvertently give spoilers. The story was suspenseful, realistic, tense, twisty, emotional, had a bit of humor mixed in … very well-written. I had a love-hate relationship with the two main characters. It’s a testament to the author that I’d have any sympathy at all for unsympathetic characters! I highly recommend this book.

The book\’s confusing start, was planned, so please keep reading. Claire McGowan\’s imaginative storyline puts you right in the middle of the mystery, trying to figure things out just like the major characters. The novel has four parts, nearly equally divided. The plotline begins to emerge and become clearer after Part 1, but there\’s still so much to learn. This was where I got hooked. Another book I was also reading was set aside until I found the end to this book with all its surprises and unexpected revelations and actions. It was a fun, engaging read created by the author\’s storytelling skills, interesting characters, and revealing dialogue. Thank goodness it was not a long book! I liked the English setting and narrative details. Lots of misdirection made the reading fun! The Audible narration helped me \”experience\” the story as I read along, making it a worthwhile investment. I want to read more by this creative writer who writes dialogue as people really talk to others and themselves.

The book is written from the first person viewpoint of several characters. Each chapter starts with the character\’s name, then goes on for a while, but does a poor job of weaving into the storyline itself. After a while you have trouble remembering who what what and did what.

This book was so good I read it in two sittings. Very intricate layers of plot, the writing so beautiful. Best book of 2019 so far for me (and I read one book a week!). Definitely recommend!

portrays all men as abusive and all women as \”willing\” \”naive\” victims. Suzie literally is away from very bad things multiple times and just keeps going back oblivious to direct offers of help. there are some suspenseful moments and two yes two satisfying ends. if you can make it through.
