I’ll start by admitting I’m a giant Sandman fan. But you don’t need to be! This is an auditory feast for the ears. If you’re lucky enough to have the comics and can read along as it plays, do so. Combined together creates an amazing experience. Again, you don’t need the comics, it is just that good on it’s own.

The Sandman: Act III audiobook Series Cupcake Bakery Mystery
This adaptation contains adaptations from volumes 6-8 of The Sandman comics.
This was another great adaptation of this series. I enjoyed the graphic novels of these three volumes but the audiobook really brings the character to life, especially with this great cast of people to voice the characters.
This volume contains The Story of Orpheus, Brief Lives, and World’s End. Orpheus, who is Morpheus’ son, had a heartbreaking story of love and loss. He found love and lost her on his wedding day, in response he goes to see Hades to save her and fails in the task. He also ends up finding out the consequences of his actions when he is attacked and should have died. He then spends hundreds of years trapped on an island until Morpheus releases him. These two do not have a great relationship but I liked seeing Morpheus finally feel in this one. He grieves and starts to see how his actions affect others.
Brief Lives is Morpheus and his sister Delirium searching for their lost brother Destruction. It was great seeing Morpheus actually spend time with someone other than Death. I really liked Delirium and Kristen Schaal did a great job voicing her character. Destruction is an interesting character and I wish we had got to learn more about him.
The World’s End story was basically a bunch of people being stuck in a Inn and telling stories about their lives. Some were interesting, others not so much. It was ok. Compared to the previous stories in this volume, this one was just ok for me. Overall, this was another great audio adaptation with a great cast of narrators. I can’t wait to listen to the next one!
Trigger and Content Warnings: death of spouse on wedding day; attempted rape; grief; dismemberment; puking noises; death of son (ep. 12); miscarriage briefly mentioned (ep. 13)

Audio The Sandman: Act III narrated by Susan Boyce
I wanted to have a copy, but the only version is to download it. The earlier volumes had a MP3 disc I could purchase. I only buy physical copies. It doesn’t seem fair that I don’t have that option.

Another Gaiman’s Dream (book) brought to life. The stories are fantastic, the performance superb, and the sound effects dramatic. I think this one is the best in the series so far, and here’s why.
First, each character is clearly indicated when he/she speaks, and there’s little guessing who’s talking. I found most of the mulit-cast audible books hard to follow because I can’t tell one character from another easily. Each Sandman book does it better than the previous one. Not only each character has his/her distinct voice, the narrator or the story identifies the person clearly. In this book, I need to guess very little.
Second, I know the characters better, care about them deeper, and thus enjoy their journey more. The characters are well designed and act in consistent ways, with the storyline pushing the character development naturally.
Third, the dramatic and realistic sound effects help tell the story clearer and push the story’s emotion higher. For example, the rapid splashing sound tells me that the character is in the water and probably struggling. One thing this book has more than before is music and songs, not just dramatic sound effects. Orpheus definitely lives up to his reputation as the god of music, and his performance is dreamy (Dream is also dreamy, so I guess it runs in the family.)
Lastly, the individual tales are all great and contribute to the overarching storyline and character development. The stories are engaging and full of imagination, dramas, and surprises. Even on the rare occasion I know how the plot will end, the journey there is still deeply enjoyable.
