When the story started and Joe entered the game world the first thing he learned was the way a person can get strong i.e by practicing alone. Since the battles with the assassins and Wolfman have started, Joe hasn’t got the time to practice alone and develop his skills.
Dakota Krout shows Joe practicing and focusing a lot at the beginning of the novel but then again he gets engaged in more serious work. The Wanderers are approaching and the earth has not remained a suitable place for humans anymore.

Sooner or later they have to migrate from it but not all of them are ready for this change also the change or shifting is not that easy when you have so many enemies to shoot you in the head. With time running out for everyone, Joe tries to master more skills that could help him control his fate and the fate of millions of others who have started depending on him. Narrator Luke Daniels presents a tired Joe in the story that has just too much burden on his shoulders and needs some time to relax and refresh a little.
