Once again, Faulkner brings us into her Inheritance setting, this time connecting with some old friends from a standalone short novel she wrote a few years ago. With this series ties to her Tooth and Claw books, she is building a wonderful alternative fantasy world. Inheritance is a very gritty series with many potential triggers, so anyone with rape, child abuse or substance abuse issues should approach with caution. That said, the characters are for the most part extremely supportive of each other and act as partners and loved ones should. I admire Faulkners deft handling of these issues and also her complex, vibrant characters. Highly recommended.

Really great follow up to the ongoing series. Its great when Amelia integrates her short story characters into her series. If you are new to this series, start at Jack of Thorns. This book is great to read on its own as well. Laurence and Quentin were trying to recover from their recent traumatic events and decided to take a break in NYC. Except they got into a quest not of their choosing in the realm of death. Luckily they had help from chance met individuals. Full of suspense and adrenaline yet thoughtful and hopeful. Definitely read this series!

Audiobook Rites of Winter by AK Faulkner
I hated book 4, and was still so pissed about it that it ruined book 5 for me but this one makes up for it! Admittedly I was afraid this was going to be like the previous two so it took me a bit to get into it. I kept closing the book afraid she was going to ruin it all, but once I got going it was an amazing ride. I kept thinking what an amazing imagination this author has. Its really so good and Im so glad I pushed through. Highly recommended!!

Audio Rites of Winter narrated by Seb Yarrick
This wasn\’t really the story I thought it would be, but I enjoyed it. I honestly had some trouble getting through the first half of it, but then when Laurence and his new friends became involved in Quentin\’s quest, I found my interest grew. This story had some twists, and some pleasant surprises, and Laurence got to see someone he\’s been missing for a long time. But the epilogue was probably the best, making me think that some bad things are in store for Laurence and Quentin once again.

I am disappointed. I purchased this book a couple of years ago when the author went by the name Amelia Faulkner. Perhaps that why my Kindle didn\’t register that I had already purchased the book when I placed my order the second time. The ISBN should have been the same because it\’s the exact same book.
