Totally disgusting that a book with Robert B Parker name on it would be this bad. I have read every Jesse Stone book written, this one was disgusting. Every other word was a fuss word, the characters were not the decent folks from past novels. This author should not have been allowed to destroy what was a perfect group of characters. I will never spend good money buying any books by Mike Lupica.

This author uses language I’m sure fits with the new crowd. I’m on chapter 8 and am quitting because I’m disgusted. No more books by this author for me.

Audiobook Robert B. Parker’s Fool’s Paradise (Jesse Stone #19) by Mike Lupica

I am seven chapters into this book and had to jump to amazon to read the reviews. I wanted to see if I was alone in thinking that the voice of Jesse was off. When did Jesse Stone start using swear words instead of intelligent dialog? Suit certainly has not used such language in previous offerings. I don\’t necessarily have issue with the words, but they are not words these characters have used in the past. Feels strange!

Audio Robert B. Parker’s Fool’s Paradise (Jesse Stone #19) narrated by James Naughton

The storyline was solid, in that aspect, it was a good novel but the book just didn\’t have that Jesse Stone feeling to me. The plot allowed the writer to hit upon all the old characters and nemeses from previous books to the point that it seemed like an old Love Boat episode with guest stars parading through. The clipped brevity of Jesse\’s speech was gone and I don\’t remember Jesse being so prone to foul language. I\’ve read the series from start through this offering, to me Jesse has not grown but just morphed into a fill-in-the-blank character, and with the Kindle price jumping up to a little north of $16 I may have read my last Jesse Sone novel.

Needless to say, I am a diehard Jesse Stone reader; but this book, by Mike Lupica, is a BIG disappointment. He portrays Jesse as a dysfunctional drunk (before he quit drinking). He also has both Jesse and Molly frequently using the f-word, which I don\’t recall either of them using in any of the 18 previous books. That particular word must be a favorite of Mr. Lupica\’s, since he has most of the characters using it as well throughout his narrative. I am 64 pages into the book and I seriously don\’t think I can finish it. The Jesse Stone character in this book is NOTHING like the Jesse Stone in the previous volumes. The same goes for Molly. He has portrayed her as a love-sick woman vice the competent policewoman that she really is. Obviously, Mr. Lupica hasn\’t read any of the Robert Parker novels, or the ones written by Mr. Brandman and Mr. Coleman. If he did, he would\’ve had some sort of idea what the characters were all about. Sadly I cannot recommend this book, and I wish I could get a refund back from Amazon. Purchase at your own peril… it\’s GARBAGE!
