The Age of the Rebellion has drawn to a close. How was it overall? It was a fun series, but never matched up to the much more interesting Age of the Republic. For this final issue Greg Pak delves into the Original Trilogy’s most popular character; Darth Vader. I didn’t expect much of this honestly. Vader has already had two long-running series expanding on his story outside the movies and I felt there wasn’t much left to tell. That’s very true after reading this, and the issue itself is only alright. This is a very early Vader, still showing signs of his previous life as Anakin Skywalker. Here he is insolent and brash. Considering when this takes place I’m not sure how we get here from either of his previous series. It’s just a really flat, childish story. It didn’t anger me or anything, it’s just nothing. Ramn Bachs’ art is one good thing this comic has going for it. It feels lively, which is important. I wanted to like this more but I just couldn’t. Pak’s approach to this series seemed to go beyond simple to childish and it detracted personal enjoyment in the series.

This Vader story was rather Disappointing, it just showed our beloved Dark Jedi forced to follow the orders of an incompetent imperial officer During the vary early days of the empire, the only good thing about this story is that we see Vader’s first ever Star fighter witch is actually pretty cool.

Age of Rebellion starts to wind down with this comic featuring Darth Vader. While Greg Pak offers an interesting enough take on Vaders relationship with the Emperor, there isnt much of a plot hook here and little in the way of memorable moments. The art team led by Ramon Bachs does a fine if not outstanding job. There is a fine essay–increasingly par for the course–by Bria LaVorgna at the end of the comic. Not a bad comic by any means but it is only slightly above average and most fans can skip it without missing much. I would offer 3.25 stars if possible which does lower my rating.
