Samurai Game

I read Toxic Game then decided to re-read the previous ones. I am at this one now and think this was the last one she wrote while she was still interested in this series. I have read every one of her books ,all her different series. I remember being so anxious for the next to come out (Viper Games) then being disappointed when it did, it just didn’t have what the previous books had. Up to now I have been going from last to previous. I think we expect a lot from our favorite author, we want each book to be just as good as the last. CF is still my favorite author even thou she can’t be perfect every time, : )

This book was enchanting, enthralling and endlessly entertaining where stubbornness and determination to rise above conflict with a core of steel to get to where love and happiness lives! Sam and Azami’s story is one of commitment between two people who are in synch with each other’s needs and are uniquely paired to fight the enemies of their families who are the other Ghostwalkers that have been physically and psychically enhanced to go behind enemy lines to carry out a job and get back without anyone being the wiser! WOW, like I said, this particular book and series is filled with paranormal gifts that will take you on a journey through intrigue and love that transcends time and space!

Ive read this once before and I didnt really like it but maybe its because I didnt take my time with it. I was pretty excited about getting this new book and when that happens, I tend to go fast. Well, at least I did before I started reviewing.

In chapter 12, Azami does this ritual bath for Sam, it takes up the whole chapter and I just kind of skimmed through it the first time, wanting to get it over with, but this time I took my time with it and really read through it and its actually quite beautiful. Am I saying that this bath needed the whole chapter? No, the readers dont really need to read about every little thing but, it is quite beautiful.

And even though it was just a brief mention, it said something about feet and I guess I just kind of shut it out at that point the first time.

Now, after the beginning it does slow down quite a bit, a bunch of talking ensues and while its mildly interesting, it seemed most of the time was spent with the team.

Dont get me wrong, I love this team and I want a book for Ian. Also, I loved that hilarious story they told Azami about a mission they went on and I did love seeing more of Daniel and learning a bit about his abilities however, I do wish that Sam and Azami had spent a little more alone time together. I feel like the book needed more of the romance factor instead of just telling the readers that they were in each others head.

The action was very subtle and while that worked in Murder Game, I think it needed just a little more action in this story. It just didnt seem to flow all that smoothly. There were only about three instances of fighting and those were very brief.

As a long time fan of this author, I knew I would thoroughly enjoy this novel, book 10 of her incredible Ghostwalker series.I fell hard for Azami, and Sam has always been a serious badass in every other story. It’s taken a long time for him to find a woman who can keep up with him, but Azami is the perfect woman. Beautiful, lethal, and smarter than anyone has a right to be, and Sam is hooked. But ghosts from the past have come back to haunt both of them. And when a mission goes sideways, will they survive long enough to be together? Only time will tell.

THE STORY: Azami “Thorn” Yoshii was tortured by Dr. Whitney as a child in his pursuit of super soldiers and abandoned as a failure. Azami was trained by her adopted father as a samurai and now is determined to destroy Whitney. She comes with her brothers to the GhostWalkers compound and meets Sam “Knight” Johnson. Sam and Amazi have an instant and powerful attraction.

OPINION: I really loved Amazi. She has a dark and painful past and meeting Sam begins to free her from that past. I love how the two of them are so sweet together and yet are deadly soldiers as well. Their interactions just made me smile because they are so well matched. My favorite part of this book is getting updates on prior couples. Seeing the teams work together and actually seeing how they have created a haven for themselves and their children was especially gratifying for readers of the series. I loved that we also get to meet Lily and Ryland’s son who is simply adorable.

WORTH MENTIONING: Readers get a good look at the children of prior couples.

FINAL DECISION: I liked this book because of the presence of so many characters from the past who are beloved. The romance was good, but I really loved seeing past characters working together again.

CONNECTED BOOKS: SAMURAI GAME is the tenth book in the GhostWalkers series. The book can be read independent of others in the series for the romance. The overarching storyline, however, is very advanced this point and new readers will have to catch up.
