Sandstorm

The creativity of some writers absolutely blows me away and “James Rollins” is at the top of the list. Love the way he weaves historical facts, happenings, places etc. into a novel for today. Have trouble putting the book down and doing things I should be doing, feed the cats, clean, cook etc. I can’t wait for each new book to come out. For me as well I’ve been to some of these “far away” places and seen some of them which adds another dimension for me.

He is always at the top of his game, no missteps for this author.

This author is the best I’ve come across in the genre. If you take Dan Brown x Dan Brown, you still are an order of magnitude off. While I found myself going to Wiki while reading two of Dan’s Books recovering from surgery, I polished off this 715 pages– 115 pages the first day, the next 600 in the following two days. I found myself researching and learning so much about Biblical history, Oman, and aspects of Arabic culture of which I had no inkling. The science is interesting, and what DARPA does who only knows. Sigma Force Seals with PhDs indeed. Enjoyable.

Being a fan of Indiana Jones, historical mysteries and all things mystical, I actually did a Google search for “Dan Brown but good.” James Rollins was one of the names that came up. I took a chance on book one of the Sigma Force series.

Good stuff. The second book is even better. I would like to rate this 4.5 stars, but it isn’t available, so it gets 5!

Rollins is well-researched and a skillful storyteller. These are page turners!

Immediately after finishing Sandstorm, I bought book two, Map of Bones. Done with that one now and moving on to book 3. I don’t have a lot of time to read, so finishing two books, a total of about 1200 pages in about 6 weeks is darn good for me. That’s because these books are so entertaining.

Mysteries, great plot development, twists, and science combine to make James Rollins books some of my new favorites!

I love this author’s writing, and I leap through his books. I just realized I’ve been reading them out of sequence and so I decided to get the first one. I have no doubt it will be just as good as the others I’ve read, but my issue comes with the shipping. I recieved my books (I ordered something else too) in a padded envelope and with this particular book the entire front cover was folded in half when I pulled it from the packaging. Props to Amazon’s customer service as always though for listening to my issue and resolving everything with one phone call. Thanks folks! Also yes, you should read this book cause this author is captivating.

I bought this as I was looking for something different than the “out there” stuff I normally read. I was not disappointed. The story flows well. I love that his books take real life and put minor twists and humor to them. There are explanations of where his material comes from and what is true and what is not (or is it! haha!). I love this series and am extremely happy that there are many books in this series that I can dive into. Highly recommend.
