Shattered Lands (Painting the Mists #8)

I wish these came out more frequently. Cha Ming and Huxian are wonderful characters. The novel has an interesting buildup of subterfuge and sabotage leading to a large conflict. Sticking it to the bad guy can get so messy. I love the world, the beasts and the people that the story follows. I definitely appreciated the what went before at the beginning as I’m not binging these.

This series has been one of, if not my favorite of the entire wuxia/cultivation genre. There is a great progression, multiple stories that all intertwine, humor, and a great amount of detail. I am excited to read the many more books to come in Cha Ming’s journey

Very well done intricate story, with some notable historical parallels to our world. Some underlying social commentaries reminiscent of Gene Roddenberry, even (I know…different genre). Love the story. Looking forward to more about the MC. I can’t get enough of the underdog succeeding against all odds theme.

the author is milking his villains for all their worth and more starting from book 1, the formula author is using to write this book is.
MC is crippled or will be crippled and have several set backs, the villains are smart and powerful but lose to MC and his gang at the end through series of miracles and luck encounters. humor about The Yama’s trouble in capitalistic underworld society.

Fast paced with lots of great battle scenes, deep intrigue, moral choices and character development, this is a solid addition to Patrick’s epic Wuxia series. I’m now eagerly awaiting book 9!
