This is my first McBain book and I must say a very interesting read.
The language used is colloquial and the storytelling is straightforward, no thrilling climax, road chasing stunts, kind of old fashioned, and the characters, be them policemen or victims or witnesses, are just ordinary people like you and me, relatable people.
The only distraction I would say I had when reading this book was there were a few references or explanation of reference made the details of which I felt was rather unnecessary. At one time I was bored and was contemplating giving up, I am glad I didnt.

Shotgun audiobook in series 87th Precinct
The final McBain 87th novel of the 1960s. This came out in 1969 and has a great twist.
It begins with a couple brutally blasted in the face with a shotgun. Bert Kling is so overcome he has to throw up. He and Carella work together on this one. There are some interesting references to prior events in the series. Kling is still with Cindy Forrest but they encounter some problems when Bert is seen with a pretty blond witness. One of my favorite parts of the book is when the cops encounter Roger Broome from “He Who Hesitates.” The final wrap up is one of the best so far in the series, well worth sticking around for.

Shotgun audiobook by Ed McBain
Another amazing story set in times I can remember. Even though I read some of this series, I am
thoroughly enjoying the entire series this time and reading them in order builds the characters
as you see them grow and go through life’s changes. The humor is great and the mysteries
are not contrived but actually read like we see them today in the news. Not everyone is great,
they all have difficulties and some rough spots, but you can accept them as real people.

Shotgun audio narrated by Ron McLarty
Not sure why some of these reviews are about _Fuzz_, but _Shotgun_ is everything you expect from McBain: acutely dry humor, interesting and well-developed characters, fast-moving plot.
This is earlier 87th Precinct, the 12th book, I believe (1969). The series evolved and got better and better through the 70’s, 80.s 90’s and early 2000’s. But in the earlier novels like this one, everything is in place. Mc Bain was on a roll!
Mc Bain is unquestionably the master of the genre.

The story of a big city police department still holds up. Somehow, I had skipped this one of the 87th precinct in action. It was like finding a lost treasure being in touch with Detective Carella and the rest of the squad again.
