Sisters

I loved it! It made me feel happy and sad and wanting more! We all have our family stories. Thank the Lord he knows what he’s doing.
The first disappointment was to discover I had already read 1/3rd of the book! I bought The Seaglass Sisters at the same time as I bought this book and read it first. It was an ok read, and was billed as a novella prelude to The Prayer Box, so I decided it was a way to find out if I wanted to buy the more expensive book. Sadly it convinced me I don’t! The other two novellas in this book (The Tidewater Sister and The Sandcastle Sister) were equally “okay” . Was not overly impressed with either of them and would not recommend this book. Cannot understand why the only reviews that appeared were for five stars!

Love and complexity of sisterhood and the effects on all. Well written. A little confusing at times but glad I read

Audiobook Mate Bond by Danielle Steel
These three stories don’t seem to fit together. Since they were sold together I expect a series type of read. There isn’t much flow between the stories, or ties except a few characters. I read The Story Keeper and loved it, so I was looking forward to these. I feel like there were too many missing parts. The lessons the characters learned felt unnatural and cliche. It seemed like the author felt like the characters had to come up with a deep insight, a great awakening, but it seemed contrived. I appreciated that it was kept wholesome and clean. When the story had to refer to things that are otherwise, the author handled it well. I’m not a fan of novella so that may be contributing to my dissatisfaction.

Audio Mate Bond narrated by Sam Freed
Sisters brings together the previous three novels by Lisa Wingate (The Prayer Box, The Story Keeper and The Sea Keeper’s Daughter) in a unique format that is enjoyable all on it’s own yet connects you to the other books too. Each story in the book affected me in one way or another, whether it reminded me of my sister and our connection or of my mother who passed last year, or even of me, when my own sons have gone off to college. For me, since I love her books, it was a very fast read. I couldn’t put it down as I wanted to know what was going to happen next. You can read it separately, but why would you? Read the other three books too, you will not regret doing so!! and if you aren’t familiar with Lisa Wingate books, your life will be changed! Her books are books that you get lost in, the characters are ones that you care about, one way or another, and you won’t be able to put the books down!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the way it relates to both mother and daughter relationships as well as that of sisters. I spent much of my early years living in North Carolina and will never forget my trip to the Outer Banks. Dad thought it would be nice to take an afternoon drive out that way. We never planned a trip, we just went for a long drive and ended up spending the night because we were too far from home before Dad had satisfied his wanderlust. As this book developed, I could could both picture the landmarks described and relate to the situation. I would highly recommend it to anyone who has ever been caught up in a family squabble that seemed impossible to resolve.
Lisa Wingate is such a gifted storyteller. I love the way she so beautifully conveys the emotions of her characters and the way she works through relationships. I’ve read a few of her books now and have loved them. Great stories. Great writing.
