Four years ago Ryder met a beautiful human, Kinsey. They had a great relationship for a year, but Ryder couldn’t understand his feelings. Con had placed a spell on the kings long ago to make sure none of them could ever fall in love again. Why then was he having such strong feelings for Kinsey? He ended up doing the hardest thing he could, he left her, leaving a break-up note behind.

Shortly after returning to Dreagan Hal showed up with a mortal, Cassie, the couple was in love. Hal was thought to have been the first king to find his mate, but Ryder just kept his secret all these years. He watched Kinsey from afar to make sure she was safe. Until a few weeks ago when he was sent to protect Glasgow from the Dark and he saw Kinsey in the flesh. It took all his willpower to not act when he saw her and now he’s back at Dreagan. So imagine his surprise when Kinsey shows up at their door with a work order from her company that none of them had placed. In fact, it’s Kinsey’s name on the order, but they all know by the shock they saw on her face at seeing him, that she’s been set up. The two are now putting their computer skills to the test to clear Kinsey’s name and find out who’s behind it all. And, of course to try to find out how Ulrik’s connected. However, one thing is for sure. Ryder is ready to claim his mate and he will do whatever it takes to earn Kinsey’s trust back! He just hopes he isn’t too late!

I actually did like this couple and I found that I liked this book better than the several before it. But … you knew that was coming … this book just didn’t knock my socks off as I was hoping. Second chance romances are kind of my jam, so I had much higher expectations for this book. And, the sex scenes were hot! I think there was just too much downtime where nothing was really happening. They spent the majority of this book in Ryder’s computer lab trying to clear Kinsey’s name. It just didn’t make for exciting reading.

We got a little more from Rhi and Balladyn, but very little!! And also a bit from Con and his new lover that everyone is so curious about.

This book ended at an odd spot … like it really wasn’t over …. Just a segue into the next book …

Mikkel, Ulrik, and Balladyn are all close to making big moves to further their plans … so excitement is surely around the corner …. I just wish they’d get on with it already!!

Smoke and Fire audiobook in series Dark Kings

I’m addicted to this series. Paranormal romance that has so many storylines and mysteries is great. I am always excited for the next book.

Ryder and Kinsley met 3 years ago and she thought they were in love, until Ryder just left her a goodbye note and disappeared.

At the time Ryder thought the dragon kings couldn’t fall in love. And fear of her rejection kept him away. Until she saw him shift when he saved her from the Dark.

Now someone has set Kinsley up to be at Draegan. She and Ryder need to see if it’s Ulrik, but more and more of the many forces working against the dragons are coming to light.

Audiobook Smoke and Fire by Donna Grant

Donna Grant has written a wonderful tale of heartache, mistrust, intrigue, mystery and love. She once again takes her reader’s on a journey of discovery, that has them on the verge of throwing away their book, but also wanting to continue on with the epic world of The Dragon Kings.
Ryder and Kinsey were first together four years ago. They both thought that they had found ‘ The One’. Go forward one year and disaster strikes, Ryder leaves Kinsey with no explanation. She is devastated – as is he. Go forward another three years and Kinsey has come waltzing back, unexpectedly, into his life. Not only is she back, but she’s at Dreagan, Ryder’s home.
What ensues is a story that will tear your heart apart. It is obvious that these two are still in love, but one of them is unwilling to open their heart. Fearing, once again there will be nothing but heartache.
Ms Grant also introduces us to another new character, Esther. She is a surprising addition to the cast and her presence will affect more than one person.
Rhi is continuing her relationship with Balladyn. She still has her ‘watcher’ with her, but she has learnt to accept their presence. She has also decided to do some investigating of her own, on certain matters.
I loved this book, just as I love the entire series. Ms Grant allows the reader to escape to another world for a few hours and just enjoy. Her writing style literally draws the reader in and keeps them wanting more. The mystery and intrigue of this world is what keeps the reader returning for more.
Brilliant story and an exceptional series.
Definitely warrants FIVE STARS from me.

Audio Smoke and Fire narrated by Antony Ferguson

This novel is #9 in the series, “Dark Kings” by author; Donna Grant. I loved this addition to the series! One, the main male character, who is also the HOT Scottish alpha male that is able to shift into his natural form as a Dragon has actually been in all the novels so far as the computer mastermind so this is his story and man, what a story! The reader gets a feeling of the passion and the pain AND the plot twists from the previous novels JUST keep adding! This novel didn’t have all the action like the previous novels but that’s ok because there sure was plenty of romance, heartbreak, laughter and healing in this one. I love this entire series and all the characters, settings and stories so if you are in a book rut then this series and author is definitely worth a try. You won’t be disappointed!

Ryder and Kinsey are thrust back together and given a second chance. They were lovers three years ago but Ryder cut ties and left. Now that they are back together they can’t hide their feelings but struggle to overcome past hurt. I really enjoyed their relationship and the hardships they faced. While not as extreme as some of the other couples this one was still intense and emotional because of the
circumstances.

New enemies. Betrayal. Brainwashing. Love. So much happens in this book and most of its is emotional. This book wasn’t one of the high action, big scene ones. This mostly consisted of Ryder and Kinsey working together on the computers to locate their enemies. Major things also happened with Con, Rhi, and Ulrik.
