Southern Gentleman by Jessica Peterson is a contemporary, enemies to friends to lovers, accidental pregnancy, workplace romance told in first person, dual POV. Although it’s the third book in the Charleston Heat series, it can be read as a complete standalone.

When free-spirited professor and designer, Julia Lassiter, and growly, regimented venture capitalist, Greyson Montgomery, meet while working on a project together, the results are explosive. On the job, they’re constantly at odds, bickering, and fighting about everything. Off the job, they redirect their energy by engaging in amazingly hot, no-strings-attached, hate sex. Even though they’re always safe, they beat the odds and Julia ends up pregnant which changes everything.

Will Julia keep the baby? Is she ready to become a mother? How will Greyson react when he finds out that she’s pregnant? Is there more to their relationship than a physical connection? Can they build something lasting together or will they end up parting as friends? Read and find out!

I loved Julia and Greyson’s story! I loved them both as characters, flaws and all. They were well-developed, likeable, and real. And the chemistry between these two was scorching hot! The story was fun, super-steamy, humorous, and heartwarmingly sweet. I highly recommend it.

I imagine there are women who get turned on by vulgarity. F*** was used as every possible part of speech, and as the most-used word in the first few chapters. I can do without that. I can also do without vulgar female anatomical references — of which there are a multitude in this story. Unfortunately the author’s limited vocabulary is not redeemed by the story itself. I couldn’t (and frankly didn’t want to) relate to either of these characters. This was my first “billionaire romance” and you can keep the genre; if this is an example, it simply stinks. Couldn’t relate to the guy, couldn’t relate to the “quirky” female. The only aspect of this story I can honestly say I enjoyed was the Charleston settings. I’ve been reading this stupid story far longer than I want to, just to see if there is any reason for its existence. Not yet. Hey, if you like this kind of drivel you’re welcome to it. Steamy is okay; vulgarly repulsive is not. BTW, the one star is for reasonably well edited. No glaring errors except: the author (or her editor) clearly has no clue how to form a compound adjective. Examples abound in this story.

I love a good enemies to lovers, accidental pregnancy story! And Jessica gives us a strong, independent heroine. A flawed hero who wants to provide monetarily for his family, but has to learn it take more then physical goods. Both have their things to learn because they both deserve their potentially fantabulous HEA. I love that these characters communicate. That their friends and family support and encourage them. That they are both successful adults who don’t NEED each other BUT CHOOSE each other. I can’t wait for more steamy goodness from Charleston. I received a review copy. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

This was an okay read. Julia is a part-time teacher and has a side job to boot. Greyson is a workaholic, who is trying to overcome his mistakes and failures with work.

Julia takes no mess from a grumpy Greyson, who insists that she spends too much money, on the interior and designs of the business that he invested in. They both have an attraction to each other and find out that their constant hookups created more than they were ready for.

CONS: Too much and too many sex scenes. I didnt understand why Greyson felt that he had to have forgiveness from his family, just because it was his choice to move on from a marriage that was no longer working.?? That was between him and his ex-wife. If anything the ex-wife was the only one he should have been seeking forgiveness from. Also, Julia was drinking wine while she was breastfeeding…Didnt make sense to me???

4-4.5 stars. Great enemies to lovers vibe. Greyson and Julia are like oil and water. Greyson likes things in order, structure and proper. He is successful in business because he knows how to turn a profit. Julia is more of a free spirit and relies on artistic expression and her instincts. Their personalities clash while collaborating on a project together. But regardless of how much defiance and sass Julia gives to Greyson, he can’t help but want to go back for more. And then it leads to a positive pregnancy test. That’s when the characters start to reveal their real selves and work together on how the future will be for this unborn child. I saw a completely different side of Greyson, which was surprising to Julia because she had no expectations from what she already knew of him. And Julia handles everything in stride because she’s so independent. But Greyson stepped it up, and in the process, realized what a gem that Julia is and that she’s worth keeping for good.
