I savored every page of this book. Peter Cozzens is a superb writer and historian. He not only illuminates the lives and times of the famous Shawnee brothers, he puts us right in their footsteps with sensory detail and exquisite prose. I’d say this is one of the finest histories of Native Americans I’ve read, but in fact it’s one of the finest AMERICAN histories I’ve read, period.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book about Tecumseh and Tenskwatawa. It appeared to have a lot of factual information from many first-hand accounts from the time-period.
My only negative about the book is the needless use of $100 words which were used in nearly every paragraph, and only detracted from the flow of the book. Obviously the author was targeting PhD’s rather than a common person who was only interested in the lives of these two Shawnee brothers.
It was very distracting to read words that I would have had to look up if I had bothered. I am not going to look up a bunch of words like that which add no value to the story.
Congratulations for your unbelievable vocabulary. I am sure there are people who will be impressed with all of the words you used. I wasn’t one of them.

Audiobook Tecumseh and the Prophet by Peter Cozzens
This is a very well researched book on the famous Shawnee leader Tecumseh and his younger brother the mystical Tenskwatasa.
While the thesis of the book is the younger brother was just as important as Tecumseh, the book does not really make the cases as Tecumseh is by far the more interesting character and the sections featuring him are quite superior to those about his brother.
But certainly recommended for anyone with an interest in early American history and in native American history.

Audio Tecumseh and the Prophet narrated by Mark Bramhall
Like the Dee Brown book, “Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee”, this is a devastating portrait of manifest destiny and the price that was paid on America’s path to global leadership.
God’s gifts are in all of us, not just European people with light skin. Frailties too. Cozzens’ book is a gift to anyone who cares to look at who we are, in all our glory and light and darkness.

I really liked this book even though some of it is fiction due to a lack of facts recorded during that period. I recommend you watch “Canada: The story of us” on Amazon Prime before reading this book. They cover the same region and way more content visually reinacted.
