This book initially grabbed my interest in a big way. Leslie finds herself in a run-down Las Vegas apartment confronted with the emaciated, freshly deceased body of her long – lost sister, Robin. This presents a huge problem for her. She can only receive her half of a $100,000 inheritance if she finds Robin, brings her to the executor of her father’s estate, and splits the inheritance with her.
The story weaves through several twists and turns. The characters bubble with deceit, and there are many layers to decifer. The novel touches on somewhat taboo topics. The rejection of motherhood/parenthood is one of them.
Without giving spoilers, this book was good, until it wasn’t. It delved into sheer unbelievability towards the end, as if the author has given up and wanted to wrap up the story…..

I was intrigued by the plot but let down by characters I couldn’t find even remotely likable or interesting. There were times I felt the story just lacked real impactful intrigue. I’m not recommending others not read it because many readers have enjoyed it. I love a good suspense that pulls me in and keeps my mind working. I love to have strong feelings about the characters. This book just didn’t do it for me.

The Better Liar audiobook by Tanen Jones
I found this midway entertaining in the beginning. I kept reading thinking where is this going. There was a nice twist however the last part of the book was terrible. She had a chance to make a great ending but just ran out of gas. Its like a different person wrote the end. Dont waste your time.

The Better Liar audio narrated by Karissa Vacker Kristen Sieh Lisa Flanagan
Robin Voigt is dead in her Las Vegas apartment. Leslie finds her too late to reconnect with her rebellious younger sister, who she needs to come home to collect their fathers inheritance. Luckily, she runs into another young woman with an uncanny resemblance to Robin and convinces her to return to New Mexico with her. Together, theyll convince not only old family friends and Leslies husband, but also their fathers attorney in charge of the inheritance, that the sisters are reunited. When the jobs done, theyll go their separate ways. Its simple enough, but with both women hiding their own secrets, theres no predicting where this story will go.
THE BETTER LIAR is a fast-paced, cant-put-down domestic thriller starring two wildly memorable characters with a constant ability to outdo one another. It seamlessly alternates between three POVS: deceased Robin, secretive Leslie, and mysterious Mary, the woman hired to impersonate Robin. While all three have their strengths, they also grow increasingly crazy, with motives and histories that hurtle the story toward its shocking finale. Jones skillfully presents unreliable narratives alongside one another, encouraging her readers to find their own truths.
A story ripe for modern audiences, THE BETTER LIAR delves into complicated conversations about mental health, familial obligation, and even sexuality. Each woman is intensely and carefully constructed, making for a hauntingly good time as these characters appear to walk across the pages of their own volition. Jones skillfully crafts a story sure to fascinate readers of all types. Its an absolute knockout of a debut work.
