Having been a fan of Black Library books for 15+ years, I’d say I’ve read quite a few great books, and quite a few duds. Definitely more of the former, though. This glorious time is on another level. Absolutely gripping and visceral, brutal and exciting. This is my first time reading anything by Andy Smillie, and I can’t praise him enough on his prose and ability as a writer in general, much less capturing the grim dark feel of Warhammer 40k. Nailed it flawlessly. His Flesh Tearers have usurped the Space Wolves as my new favorite “good guys” to read about now. Nassir Amit and Gabriel Seth are written just perfect, spot on and bad ass. Highly recommend for any into military sci fi, or just high octane violence coupled with exquisite writing. Buy this. Read this.

I cannot say enough good things about this book. Comprised of several shorter stories to create an overall narrative — a couple of which I have listened to (many times) as audiobooks — I leave this book with mixed feelings. On one hand, I really enjoyed it all. On the other, I want more! More of Amit in the aftermath of the Heresy, and more of Seth in the 41st millennium. My favorite characters in the stories would be Amit and Harahel. A job well done, Mr. Smillie!

The Flesh Tearers Audio Collection audiobook by Andy Smillie C Z Dunn
This is the ultimate Flesh Tearers resource and discusses both the chapter’s early foundations and recent history, typically from the point of view of the respective chapter masters. The narrative of the second book can get a bit confusing at times but overall it paints and interesting picture of this often-misunderstood Space Marine chapter and presents an intriguing counterpoint to the larger Blood Angels chapter, as well as providing interesting details on many of the other successor chapters. For Blood Angels fans, this is a must-read!

The Flesh Tearers Audio Collection audio narrated by full cast
An excellent collection of Flesh Tearer stories and the first of its kind, this sets the tone and mood for my favorite successor chapter. Gives you the bare bones essentials as to who they are, where they came from, and what they must do to avoid the inquisition wiping them out. I have to say, the more extreme their measures, the more insane their opponents, the more I look forward to playing them in the game. Who would dare stand against so much concentrated rage contained in so few space marines? (Answer: Orks. Silly, stupid Orks)

Liked it, the very first story is pretty much skipable/forgettable. It only serves to setup the nature of this particular chapters ‘genetic disorder in hiding’ that most SM Chapters seem to suffer from in one way or another (in this case, think Space Wolves) and their black sheep pecking order within their parent Legion. Otherwise it’s Space Marines vs Dinosaurs.
The rest of the books within the Omnibus are a first notch revealing of just how brutal and actually blood thirsty this chapter is and makes a fair argument for their destruction, as is actually decided upon by a secret tribunal in the last story.
Overall goodstuff.
