This is Book 2 of the Lost Queen trilogy. Its just as exciting and
invigorating as the first. I highly recommend reading Book 1, The Lost Queen, before starting this one. Relationships will make a lot more sense when the books are read sequentially.
In this book, we see what happens to the characters we came to care about in The Lost Queen. This time, the story is told by 3 different character in alternating chapters. My favorite storyline follows Angharad, daughter of Langoureth, as she trains in the Wisdom Paths of the different places she travels to. And of course I enjoyed seeing Artur (future King Arthur) whenever he showed up. His storyline does not match up precisely with the old legends Im familiar with, but thats ok because much of that story is based on legend anyway. New theories about Arthur continue
to pop up even now, so Im glad this author included them. Just goes to show that people are still thinking about the King Arthur legends and care enough about them to challenge them.
I recommend this book highly to those who like historical fiction and/or historical fantasy, sword and sorcery, stories about magic and Wisdom training, and King Arthur stories. This book is a clean read, like The Lost Queen. No sex or swearing, no gratuitous violence. Even the battle scenes manage to convey the sense of war without grisly details. Highly recommended for a good read.

This story is truly incredible. I am so looking forward to Book III. So detailed and well researched to bring a fictional story to a fully believable level. I have studied various eras of English history, even minored in it, but have been unable to get a grip on this time period. Truly spellbinding while also educational. Thank you, thank you for your hatd work and contributions, Ms. Pike.

Audiobook The Forgotten Kingdom (The Lost Queen Trilogy #2) by Signe Pike
Although The Forgotten Kingdom is Pike’s second novel in a trilogy, this book could stand alone.
It might be good to read The Author’s Note in the back of the book to learn that three of her three main characters were actual people in 850AD Scotland.
That being said, I loved this book. It has a bit too many battles (although I gather that’s how they lived back then) and many unfamiliar names to remember, which did bog me down a bit.
However, the writing is so exquisitely beautiful, at times becoming quite poetic.
Following is a sample of Pike’s writing, from page 115:
“The forest was an autumn splendor. Leaves crunched underfoot as they followed the meandering track through the trees, listening for the shouts or rustle of soldiers, but the only sound was the low whistle of wind in their ears as it plucked gold and vermilion leaves from the branches overhead, sending them spiraling gracefully from the canopy.”
I look forward greatly to Signe Pike’s conclusion of The Lost Queen trilogy.

LOVED these books! Truly enjoyed the “Artur” bits and feels that crept in, and the writing was splendid. Very much enjoyed the characters, although had some trouble occasionally keeping track of the minor ones due to the names. Lost one star because I just felt a little dumped at the end. Had to go back and re-read the last chapter or two to see if I had missed something. Once I figured it out, I thought “this would make a great movie ending …. where you have a visual, but is confusing in print.” All in all, very very happy I found these – will pursue others by this author.
