Excellent. A book about “things that should not be examined or built or imagined.” I like the main character and I find his exploration of what is going on at the “think tank” fascinating. The possibilities of what the strange device can or cannot do is not nearly as interesting as the search and find and resolve plot of the book. It is the reason.

The main character, Jeremy Logan, is intelligent and not clueless. He pays attention and “notices” things that other people either do not notice or dismiss. He is brought in to investigate the horrible death of one of the “think tank members.” That death is spectacularly gruesome and, unfortunately, public. Despite ideas that the victim committed suicide there is no evidence that he did so, though he did. He committed suicide to stop the things that were happening to him. Sounds a little confusing, but that is the reason Logan is called in. There are a couple of sub plots, one especially, that I think was thrown in to muddy the waters.

There is one death that is particularly sad. The main “villain” is a surprise, though the author did not leave many or, actually, any clues laying around about that, so it is a surprise.

Now, one of the best parts is the prolog, it is great. Especially as it is referenced later in the book by one of the characters who hates Logan’s guts.

Good read, interesting, well written, good characters, and people who actually behave the way people probably would.

The Forgotten Room audiobook in series Dr. Jeremy Logan

Jeremy Logan is an enigmologist, meaning he investigates the unknown like the Loch Ness Monster. He is called to Lux, a prestigious think tank on the east coast after the suicide of a professor. He is asked to find out why a man who had so much to live for would kill himself so hideously, after apparently going crazy. It’s all on tape so there’s no question of the act itself, just the why. Lux wants no scandals to besmirch their reputation so the investigation must be kept quiet. Jeremy takes on the job and all manner of crazy things begin to happen. Good story, didn’t end quite the way I expected. I will have to check into this Jeremy Logan character again.

Audiobook The Forgotten Room by Lincoln Child

Actually 3 1/2 stars. This book started cooking in the first third. Had, what i thought, was a really good premise. Was glued to it. But this one comes unraveled towards the second third. Never recovered from it. Without trying to reveal anything the book abruptly. The book changes tenor and never goes back to the initial promise. Really bummed me out. Was off relaxing over the Thanksgiving Holidays thought this would have kept pace with the festivities. There is nothing wrong with the characters, or the actual finished story. It just felt like a “bait and switch” maneuver to me. Will continue to read Lincoln Child and Preston-Child tandem. In this case was a little disappointed.

Audio The Forgotten Room narrated by Scott Brick

The forgotten room is one of the most “grabbed me” books that I have read in a long time. Pay close attention to the details of the mansion, and the many characters residing within. There are many twists and turns in the hallways of this grand mansion. Not too mention some equal twists and turns in the story line.

Lincoln Child is one of my favorite authors. He didn’t leave me disappointed with this book.

I read this book in just a few days. I seriously had to make myself go to bed or I would have finished the book in one sitting.

So get yourself something to drink, grab a blanket or something to hold onto and hunker down in a comfy chair and enjoy!

(Review first published at Goodreads by myself changed a little for Amazon)
Great page-turner, could have done with a few more up-to-date gadgets (no tablet / iPad / Smartphone / iPhone / WiFi? srsly?). Checked the publishing date, as I waited a long time for the price to sink.
Only a hint of romance, no sex. Some graphic, bloody scenes but not much violence. As often, the MC does too much alone, although he gets an assistant during the story.

The opening chapter is pure genius, although it has nothing to do with the main-story, it sets the stage and shows without too much words the kind of work the MC does (if you do not already know from previous books).

Description of the place, castle like mansion, weather etc. top-notch, imho. Not too much to bore, just the right amount.

Highly recommended, but not overly realistic. Not sure, wether it was a short read or due to the page-turner quality I finished it in a mere 2 days, could have done this in one long sitting, if I had nothing else to do or did not care as much about sleep as I do. Still, would have been better with a few up-to-date technologies, it could have been written in 1990ies or 2000ies, after (rich) people started using mobile phones and laptops.
