Take the cheesiest Indiana Jones gimmicks (and the characters have the gall to mock the IJ franchise) and the most-ludicrous escapes from James Bond flicks and remove any interesting dialog. Oh, and add a “surprise” ending that you should figure out someplace around page 87. On the flip side, at least someone did the research on Plato and modern searches for Atlantis. Not a complete waste of money and an interesting, if occasionally-cringe-inducing, read.

The Hunt for Atlantis audiobook in series Nina Wilde And Eddie Chase
I see other reviews here that discredit this as an Indiana Jones type story. Well yes, it is action and adventure. Yes it is archeological and history themed. However, it is its own exciting story and I do not believe that any reviews here underrating it based on the Indian Jones essence should be used in anybodys decision of whether or not to read it. Read it because its a fantastic story!
Also, with my former background in military and aviation, I am very impressed with McDermotts accuracy in tactical and aircraft details. Hollywood and other stories often flaw these subjects but McDermott maintains accuracy without sacrificing the intrigue of the story.
Side note, has anybody else who has read any of the Chase and Wilde series pictured Eddie Chase to be acted out by Jason Statham? Just wondering…

The Hunt for Atlantis audiobook by Andy McDermott
I seem to have stumbled across several books recently where the subject is the searching for and finding Atlantis. This is better than some of the others. I enjoyed it and have read a couple of others by McDermott and have to say that by the 3rd one that Eddie and Nina must be a mass of scars because of all the injuries, broken bones that they keep sustaining in their fights to survive. There are quite a few more in this series, and I’m wondering if they are both in body casts by the last in the series. This book has good guys and a boatload of bad guys. The reason for the bad buys doing what they do are outrageous and megalomaniacal, and I hope no one in the real world ever gets any of their ideas.

The Hunt for Atlantis audio narrated by Simon Mattacks
Great story that draws you into the Atlantis myth with an intriguing story line played out with twists and turns and plenty of action. Move over Clive Cussler there are more good story tellers out there.

I’m always on the search for exciting novels similar to the ones Matthew Reilly writes. And Andy McDermott’s “The Hunt for Atlantis” comes pretty close. The book could probably lose 50-75 pages near the front, but once the adventure begins, it’s pretty faced paced!
Nina Wilde is following her late parents footsteps in searching for Atlantis. When the Frost Foundation agrees to fund her theory as to where the lost city resides, a globe hopping adventure with close calls, wild weapons, and crazy stunts ensues. This is due primarily to Eddie Chase, a Brit who’s been hired by Frost to protect Nina. He’s ex-Special Ops and a regular alpha-male, wise-cracking, bad-ass. Similar to Reilly’s Shane Schofield and Jack West, Jr. But of course there are bad guys too, and they’re determined to keep the secrets of Atlantis drowned forever.
As with Reilly’s characters and stories, you must leave reality at the door because there’s no place for it here. What McDermott’s characters go through–and survive–is wholly silly but lots of fun. Give it a shot and you’ll be hooked!
