The Kill Order (The Maze Runner #4)

The Maze Runner series was strong only because the characters were interesting. Those characters are not present in this book. This book adds almost nothing to the backstory behind another tired plot about the world being turned over the teakettle and becoming inhabited by zombies. It\’s as if he wrote a backstory to the non-story part of the story. If he really wants to make more cash, he could spend a dozen books worth of pages telling the bios of Newt and Thomas and Minho and Gally (not the girls, they were two-dimensional wastes of ink in the first place) or the inside workings of the people who built WICKED. Dr. Page\’s bio would be an interesting read. Generally, if it\’s interesting, it will be somewhere other than this book.

While reading this I WANTED that transvice so I could use it on myself! Let me start by saying I was looking forward to reading this and had high expectations. It took me a while to get around to reading it, so the ending of the Death Cure was a little blurry, but I was still able to understand the book. I had two peeves while reading this. The first was the use of \”soldier\” and old bear. Mark must have called Alec these at least 10 times. Could he just stop doing it?!?! It was very annoying. Secondly, there was the repeating cycle of danger that made up the whole book. First, two people would run off in their stupid fashion trying to be \”hero\”. Then they would go sneaking around a little. In the end they would get into some sort of trouble, but don\’t worry, because they ALWAYS GOT OUT OKAY. There was no guessing game involved, which made it boring to read, knowing what was going to happen every time. The only reason as to why this this got 3 stars was the characters. I liked the indirect backstory on Teresa, as well as the crazies. Basically, I just liked the concept-a prequel is a good choice for writing and at least this book was actually a prequel. Overall, an OK book,but beware of the cycle of predictability and the overuse of soldier.

This book was a big disappointment for me. Thinking it was going to be the same main characters as Maze Runner. Wrong again! It started off really boring. Marc is the main character with Alec. Marc falls asleep a lot in this book. When he is sleeping, he dreams about how the came to be where they are today. It went back to how they escaped the train, subways, the water and crazy people attacking them. Even in the book all it was, Marc and Alec fighting off crazy people, My opinion. Don\’t waste you money! You will not be happy. The ending was dull, not what I thought it was going to be. Very unhappy with this book.

The fragile peace is shattered when the Berg\’s show up and people begin to die. Now, there is a strange illness and it\’s taking over the population faster than anyone could have ever imagined. But who is behind the illness, what does it really do, what was it\’s real purpose? Mark and Trina are destined to find out! I was so excited to pick this book up. To be honest, since I read the Maze Runner, I have been in love with the writings of James Dashner. He is truly gifted at creating a world and making sure that you have no idea what is happening or what is coming. Constant surprises abound in the novels that he writes. One might think, that because this is the prequel to his amazingly popular series that it is obviously, not going to be as exciting. They would be wrong. Dashner, makes sure to enlighten his readers to things that you would never dream of happening. Things you never thought of. Things that happened long before Thomas and the crew entered the maze. I loved the way that he didn\’t start completely at the beginning. To be honest, I thought, initially the book would be told by someone in WICKED that created the Flare, or perhaps, something similar. I was wrong. Much like the Maze Runner, the story is told by the teens that are living in the world plagued by the madness that is now around every corner. In the Maze Runner, the Flare is here and there, but in the prequel you will find that it plays a huge staring role. Giving people a much better view of what the Flare is like and how it begins, ends, etc. I loooooved the character development in this novel. The way Mark changed from the first page to the last.. I can\’t give too much away, but it was phenomenal. A mark of a true writer. I think anyone that has not read the Maze Runner should. It\’s one of my favorite dystopian teen novel series. Not to mention, the Prequel just rounds it out even more. I\’m not sure if Dashner intends to write another prequel, to explain what happens after the end of the Kill Order, or if instead, that is where the Maze really begins. But, overall, I thought it really rounded out the series. 4.5 stars!!!

if you haven\’t read the maze runner yet, stop, put this down and go start from the order as written not the \”real\” order of the story. i hate when people do that it will ruin the other three books for you if you don\’t. we finally see how it all began. this book takes us to the struggle of the world before the maze, when the flares happen and when the flare takes the rest of the population. Dashner introduces new characters in the first generation of this new world. it is action packed, well written, and sprinkled with a little love. Not just love in the standard man women sense but the over laying theme of love of each other and when your family is taken from you, what would you do to protect the new one you have made in the face of disaster. its great to see how thomas becomes thomas, explanations are given, final decisions on who the enemy really is, and why thomas and theresa made the choice they did in the very beginning. action packed is an understatement. if you are looking for the mental questions and constant state of confusion this one doesn\’t have it as the other three do. This is the explanation for the rest of the series, and knowing the ultimate outcome it gives you the insight instead of being in the same boat as the others who had no idea what was happening. I\’m actually sad the series is over!
