The King of Crows (The Diviners #4)

Overall, I was disappointed in the ending of this series. There was such a lovely, tense buildup to the final book in the series, but it fell flat. I was expecting an exciting, lengthy showdown between the Diviners & the King of Crows and was left with a novel that focuses more on their journey. Their literal traveling across the country. That alone took up more than half the book and left very little for the ending. I didn’t feel that the characters’ arcs were complete by the end of the series, but forced closed by the Epilogue. I loved this series and would recommend, but this was not the ending I was hoping for.

I agree this started out a bit slow but it did pick up very quickly. I am so sad this is over. I enjoyed all the characters, the book, and ending which did not in any way disappoint. I have read a few trilogies where the ending was bad and it ruined the books for me. So I have been avoiding books in a series, it is just too disappointing when an author changes the characters character, or the flow/style of the book, or has a sappy crappy ending.
This series is one of my all time favorites. I am sure it will remain so.

Im real life about to quote supernatural but I cant think of a more fitting response than that spoken during Swan Song at the end of season five so here it goes, No doubt endings are hard, but then again nothing really ends, does it?

King of Crows tells a hard truth of what it means to go up against an evil that is so rooted in the intricate histories of civilization that it can never truly be beaten but rather must be fought day after day against those who rise when the ones before them fall.

This series does a lot when it comes to shining the light on things I feel like a lot of people might try to gloss over when it comes to the crimes and injustices of the past by making it very clear that these are things that continue to play out in a vicious cycle as people move on and forget allowing new cruelties or acts of fear and hate to dictate their treatment of others.

I want to share so much of what Im feeling now that the series is over but I know it would be just as long as the book itself if I attempted to cover everything and how much it meant to me to walk beside these characters and watch their stories unfold over the course of 4 books and see how much theyve grown and how strong they are to do what they did outside of the paranormal diviner element where they just genuinely cared for one another and how that trust and friendship was able to be the defining moment in the end rather than their gifts and though I wish all of them could have made it to that final page I know that that is not reality and sometimes we lose the best of those around us in the fight and its how we honor their memory that keeps them alive.

I saw some discussion about the ending and if it was a let down and I honestly dont think it could have been finished any other way than by making the point that Ive touched on myself in past reviews that this story isnt over and though the King of Crows may have an ending, a new man in the stovepipe hat is waiting in the wings for his moment to prey upon those who are susceptible and though we may not have gifts we do have a voice and that can be just as powerful.

I feel like this is probably a review that is more of a comment on society rather than a take on a work of fiction that I just cried my way through but with this series I think if you dont come away with that sense of duty to be the change you wish to see you didnt understand the series.

Loved this entire series and would recommend it. I didnt find the ending to be as exciting as I was expecting compared to the other books (particularly book 3). It had been built up to be a much bigger battle in the end throughout these books in my opinion. It was okay but it was my least favorite book of all 4 in the series. Kills me to only give 3 stars considering Ive given the rest of the series 5 stars but I was let down by how anticlimactic this one felt to me.

This was a very good ending to an excellent series. If you’ve been with these characters since book one, you’ll no doubt be joining them for this final adventure and it’s not a letdown.
I’m really not going to be telling you very much about what happens in this book. You’ll be coming off the explosive ending of the third book and this picks up from there. The Diviners find themselves separated and working on finding each other and figuring out how the heck they are going to deal with all the ghosts, shadow men, and of course the King of Crows himself. You’ll get to meet a few new characters who bring new dimensions to the story and a reminder of how the really real world was back then as well. In this, the very last of the Diviner books, you can expect to laugh, cry, have your heart ripped out and stomped on, be on the edge of your seat, be gripped with fear, and wind up turning those pages so fast you’ll be at risk for major paper cuts. Every turn has something going on and some things you may expect while others you’ll never see coming.
This book is a really good finale to this series. I really enjoyed all of it, almost. I didn’t love almost the very end. However I did like the very end. I can’t really tell you what part I didn’t like but there was a bit of an otherworldly feeling to something and it just wasn’t exactly something that I loved. I didn’t hate it but, hey, it just wasn’t my thing. However, I really loved the rest of the book as well as the first three so I would definitely feel comfortable saying this is a 5 star series (4.9 if you want me to take that little bit off for the one bit). I’d recommend it to anyone who likes YA spooky fun with everything going for it. I really enjoyed this and will miss these characters so much!
