Suggest you read Lucifer’s Shadow before The Lizard’s Bite, as it offers a lot of background to the characters in The Lizard’s Bite, and thus, you’ll really enjoy the “Bite” much more, begin able to put it all into context. I recommend this book, but I liked Lucifer’s Shadow even more: complex plot spanning different historical periods, primarily in Venice, engaging characters, and it seems, the devil himself, all making more sense in the “Bite” if you read Lucifer’s Shadow first. Together, what a great read: five stars for the combo.

The Lizard’s Bite audiobook in series Nic Costa
I recently found this author. I have been delighted with the two books read so far. The Lizard’s Bite takes place on the Island of Murano in Italy. Having been there several times on vacation purchasing wonderful glass pieces, the book is especially interesting as the victims were glass makers and their family is devastated. The detective team of Nic Costa, Leo Falcone, and Theresa, the medical examiner are at their best again.

Audiobook The Lizard’s Bite by David Hewson
Hewson continues to provide a high quality read with Nic Costa. I’m working my way through all of the Costa books and have yet to be dissapointed. Costa and the surrounding characters are well developed and interesting. The plot usually involves some form of historical connection that helps the reader learn a bit as well as being entertained.

Audio The Lizard’s Bite narrated by Sean Baker
The Lizard’s Bite met all of my expectations of David Hewson’s Nick Costa series. It’s un-putdownable. As usual it has great characters, tightly woven plots, intrigue and historically documented art and architecture. All woven into a great story.
This is the 3rd book of David Hewson’s I’ve read and not been disappointed yet. I don’t write about the stories, leave that to others and I do appreciate those who do! His novels are well written with a sound knowledge of Rome etc. The plots are well thought out and I have always liked authors of crime novels who use the same detectives as you get to know all their little foibles.
I haven’t caught up yet on all his books but intend to do so

First Sentence: In the shifting darkness of the vessel’s bowels, low over the undulating black water, the animal waited, trembling.
Roman police officers Nick Costa and Gianni Peroni think they are going to get some time off with their girlfriends, former FBI agent Emily Deacon and pathologist Teresa Lupo. But things change when their boss, Leo Falcone shows up and the three of them are told they are to investigate the deaths of a Moreno glass worker and his wife. But the pressure is on as wealthy Englishman, Hugo Massiter is about to buy the island currently owned by the victim’s family. The three policemen are told to investigate the deaths quickly and verify the man killed his wife and then died of spontaneous combustion. With the help of their girlfriends, the three policemen finds things are not as simple as hoped.
As a big Donna Leon fan, this was an interesting perspective of Roman policemen working in Venice. Many of the things Leon’s Insp. Brunelli loves about Venice, these detectives hate. However, the corruption of some of the Italian police remains a consistent theme. There are a lot of interesting characters, but the story was short on character development. It was really the twists and turns along the way that kept me reading.
