Jemmy Morland is master of Morland Place and is forced to marry Lady Mary, sister to one of the leading lights of the Hanoverian Court, to keep control of the Morland fortune. Mary is an icy, unforgiving woman, jealous of Jemmy’s family and friends and though doting on the two sons she gave Jemmy, despises their daughter, Jemima. Jemima grew up knowing that her own mother hated her and so turned to her father and relatives for love. She learned all the ways of the family business in cloth manufacturing so that she was a very capable heir when both sons died of small pox. She married a cousin, so as to keep the family name and became Countess of Chelmsford, only to find that she had married a penniless and debauched man who wanted her only for her money, which he soon squandered. In that era, every single thing that a woman owned became her husband’s property upon marriage, leaving her totally dependent upon him..thank the Lord that things changed!!

The Maiden audiobook in series Morland Dynasty
I was introduced to the Morland Dynasty series about three years ago. Thank goodness for ebooks. I would be drowning in just this series if I was having to buy the actual physical copy each time. Some of these books are more interesting than others, as at times characters come along that you don’t really care about, or a period in history that really is quite uneventful. This is just one of the series and doesn’t really work as a stand alone book, needs to be read as part of the series, so it’s difficult to say much about it. Give the first book a try if you’re curious, but don’t try and read this as a one off.

Audiobook The Maiden by Cynthia Harrod-Eagles
I am loving this series, and am really very addicted. However over the last three dynasties I have noticed a huge amount of spelling and grammatical errors. I mean who is Ring Charles? This probably sounds very petty, but some paragraphs are very confusing and the reader needs to complete the story themselves! I don’t mind with the free books on the kindle, but I am paying for this!!
I’m steadily working my way through the series, having read them some time ago. Although I enjoyed this one I found myself skimming over some of the background details. There did seem to be a lot in this book and though it set the scenes I didn’t always find it interesting. Personal preference because some people would like it I’m sure. An ok book but not one of my favourites.

Audio The Maiden narrated by Christopher Scott
I have twice previously commented on the frequent incidence of sloppy typos in several Kindle books by this author. I live in hope of hearing from someone at Amazon about the apparently disappointingly relaxed attitude that the company has in regard to the supply of sub-standard goods…
