So little takes place in this book past the first quarter that you could sum up the remainder of the story in a chapter or two and not miss much detail. John goes way, way, way overboard with the worded illustrations of simple and mundane conversations between characters. Where my disappointment is with these later novels is that Johns writing was like candy. Easy to swallow and tastes great, but the only problem was that the plot here dwindles so quickly that youll wonder why its even worth it to continue forward. Im pressing through to finish his extended series from a completionist standpoint and with how bad this one was, Im really hoping that the others are at least more tolerable to not make it seem like a total waste of time.

Review #2

The Man from Barbarossa audiobook in series James Bond The Collection John Gardner’s James Bond

One character name goes back and forth between Joe and Joel. Other continuity priblems too. If an author needs narration 2/3 of the way through a novel then it is poorly written. The last 30 pages of the book are the only action with new never seen details. Pacing is sloooow, the plot is boring and its attempt to place itself in history failed.

Audiobook The Man from Barbarossa by John Gardner

Something about this title caught my eye and I just couldn’t wait to read it. When the time came to read this novel I was disappointed. It was long and rather boring. Plot progressed very slowly with long drawn out chapters of great description that I felt was unnecessary. Wouldn’t read this one again. Hoping the next book in line is better.
