The novel has a rich history in it and though the author Kate Quinn has added a few things on her own the story is awesome to listen to. Kate takes us to the past where England is at war with the Nazis and both sides are facing difficulties. There are threats of a different kind that cannot be contained. Bletchley Park becomes the new battleground for the two sides and England seems to need heroes. Serious code breaking is needed and for this, the country is hiring both men and women.

In such circumstances, three women rise to the scene who want to protect their land and serve the government in this time of need. The first one that the author introduces is Osla who is a rich girl and Prince Philip has his eye on her because of her beautiful charm. The second one is Mab who is not rich like Osla but both share the passion to serve their country through code breaking.
During this campaign, they meet their third partner i.e Beth, and together these three start the code breaking which was duly needed by their country. The job is completed excellently but something happens to their friendship at the end of the battle. Now seven years later the three are needed once again and they realize that an old enemy is back in business and it is the same person who destroyed their friendship in the past.

Saskia Maarleveld narrates the standards that were set in The Alice Network and Mistress of Rome. The author has always tried to give flavor to the old history items so that people can have some interest in those old forgotten stories and the heroes that took part in them
