The Three Women

Beth, Joanne & Megan met in college. Following graduation, the 3 of them shared a girls getaway. Slightly inebriated, they arrived at a pub. It was noisy & crowded, mostly with young men celebrating the end of final exams. Megan left with a man she had been chatting with. When Beth & Joanne arrive back at the bungalow, they find Megan’s dress is ripped; she’s battered & bruised. They assume she’s been raped. Megan doesn’t deny it. An act of deception starts a chain of events that will directly & indirectly affect the lives of many.

Twenty years later, Megan finally tells Joanne & Beth what really happened that night. She should have told them a long time ago. But, it had been easier to continue the lie than to admit the truth. She wishes she could turn back the clock.

As the story nears the conclusion, the twists & turns come fast & furiously. The flood gates open & ALL the secrets they’ve been keeping from each other come rushing out. The strong ending is the best part of the book.

A psychological thriller that is full of twists and turns. Three girls become close friends during their first year of university. They friendship becomes a tight bond that offers each of them security, acceptance and love. After their final day at university, they decide to take an overnight girls trip. The girls end up partying with different groups and one of them leaves with a local man before the party ends. When the other girls get home they find their friend battered and bruised, her clothes torn and her emotions raw. Assuming that a rape occurred, the friends promise to never reveal what happened. This evening has forever changed the lives of the three women. Twenty years later, the women meet at the place where the event occurred. When the real truth about what happened that night is revealed, the women reveal how many of their life choices were made because of the events of that evening. As they all try to come to terms with their actions and decisions, they realize facing the consequences of their choices will change their lives completely. Unexpected twists and turns abound in this story, the devastation that can result from one little secret or lie is shocking. The ending was thought provoking and totally unexpected. If you enjoy psychological suspense, this one will not disappoint!!

This was a painful slow burn, at least 20% too long. A dreadful story about a woman lying about being raped and the resultant actions that her lie influenced two of her friends to commit. I suppose the moral of the story is not to lie, but the way this played out was frankly ridiculous and the so-called twist at the end was just twisted and non-credible. Not remotely gripping. A disappointing 2 Stars.

Unusual story of three college friends in London who become involved in a crime. The responsibility lies with all of them but it’s not until years later that they sort it out. Great characters, plot twists & an unexpected ending contribute to the well crafted story.
