From start to end, I was addicted to Jessica’s words as I have been before and I felt like I was right there; involved in Slade and Lauren’s story – the beautiful parts, the ugly parts and everything in between.

Writing about life post-military cannot be easy. It’s not an easy subject and this was oh so real to read about. My heart continually went out to Slade and his difficulties in resuming what most would class a “normal” life.

His daily struggles became more noticeable to Lauren but she was afraid to cross the seemingly erratic line between happy Slade and angry Slade. Something needed to break.

I adored the dual POV, the rock bottom moment damn near stopped my heart and the way it was written was so well done that I was sad when it ended.

Well done, Ms Ruben. Another smash hit for me!! Cannot wait to see what will come next from you.

I absolutely devoured this book. I tried putting it down, and just couldn’t. J Ruben wrote a perfect story of a broken veteran and a strong, independent heroine. It was exhilarating, breathtaking, and all-consuming.

I first met Slade in Vincent & Eve’s series, which I loved so much that I wasn’t sure how I would feel about Slade’s story. But this man stole my heart!!!! He is so beautifully broken. He is all Alpha-male and I am HERE.FOR.IT. The muscles, the confidence, the possessive and protective nature – GAH – I fell for him hard. Although you know that he is battling his own demons, you can’t help but get swept up in his charming and swoon-worthy ways.

When Lauren enters the picture, I actually loved the fact that they had met before. Their chemistry was already established, and the way Slade stalked her like she was his prey in their initial reunion scene was SO HOT! I was done for this man right there. I loved Lauren – she was classy, brilliant, beautiful and had just enough sass to put Slade in his place when needed. Their banter was so fun and flirty and Lauren’s confidence made me want to channel my inner female goddess. She had Slade figured out pretty quickly, and it was both endearing and nerve-wracking to watch how she tip-toed around both of their feelings and emotions.

“But it seems that so long as I don’t cross any of his boundary lines, he’ll stay in his natural state – cool, calm, controlled, and sexy as hell.” Sigh….sexy as hell is right!

The more time that Lauren & Slade spend together, the more I found myself inserted in their lives and invested in their outcome. Their story is so real and raw. The descriptive scenes of Slade’s PTSD and the tragedy that occurs in this book both brought tears and goosebumps. J Ruben did a fabulous job of truly painting the picture of what war veterans experience upon returning home, as well as the reality of today’s crisis of mass shootings; and the parallels she drew between Lauren’s experiences with working with Eve and her own involvement with Slade were simply brilliant. This book will steal your breath. You will cry tears of pain and joy. You will fall in love with not only the hero, but also the bold and determined heroine. I was both empowered and humbled by this book. J Ruben – you have done it again, and I can’t wait to see what’s next from you!!! 5+ stars from me for Warrior Undone!!!

Wow I dont know if I have ever loved a tortured hero more than I do Slade . I wanted to hug him and help him through his pain. Jessica Ruben is becoming one of my favorite authors . The way she wrote a solider suffering from PTSD was truthful, gut wrenching, and tragic. My husband suffers from PTSD and normally authors dont portray it honestly or do the reality of the suffering justice. Ruben does, she doesnt sugar coat it. She shows us the gritty parts , the suffering , the spiral that most dont see. There were parts of this story that actually happened to me with my husband so it made it all that more real for me .
Slade is a retired Navy Seal whos past is slowly driving him to do things he would never do. He thinks he has his PTSD under control. That he can handle it all on his on. He is slowly spiraling. He thinks he is no good for anyone. All he can give Lauren is fun. Lauren is a nice, shy, sweat girl who everyone loves. She likes Slade and would love more with him but she knows he cant . What happens when everything starts to come to the surface. When everything starts to spiral out of control. When Slade becomes someone he hates , someone he doesnt recognize. What happen when Lauren becomes scared of Slade. Can these to come together , can Slade face his demons and love Lauren , can he love himself.
Im telling you , you can not go wrong with this story. Be ready for a book hangover though . I haventm felt so much from a book in a long time . Way to go Jessica Ruben.

This isn`t pink, fluffy or unicorns, so don’t go there if cant handle heavy-weight.
Slade. Physically beautiful. Emotionally f***ed up through his years serving his country as a Navy Seal. Attaches blame for the death of his best friend in action to himself and is burdened with guilt in civilian life. Flashbacks. Zoning out of conversations. Self-medicating to keep the demons from his sleep. A damaged, beautiful man who refuses to share his guilt, fears, or let any woman get close.
Enter Lauren: A legal secretary with a yearning to escape her life filled with everything material, but nothing of substance. A slow-burning desire to find a more fulfilling life comes to a head at her best friends wedding where, by chance, she and Slade hook up for one very passionate and sexy evening – never to cross paths again. Or so they thought….
No spoilers.
This is the mere bones of the book. It brings awareness of life outside of the military and deals with suffering in silence. It also brings utter joy when two people – against all odds – cannot stop gravitating towards each other when obstacles seem insurmountable.
Read it. Love it. You will not forget it.
