Katie Fforde is among my top five favorite all time authors. She’s right up there with Jill Mansell, Milly Johnson, Jenny Colgan, and Mary Kay Andrews. If you are looking for a serious piece of literature, then this isn’t going to be your cup of tea. Katie Fforde books are light, romantic (without the XXX rating needed) and comedic.

Her books are always layered with interesting characters that you instantly bond with and feel as if you know or want to know. They are usually set in little villages that make us Americans’ “English fantasies” come to life. Every time I open up one of Katie Fforde or Jill Mansell’s books I am instantly taken to another place and wishing like crazy I could step into the world they have created.

In Wedding Season we meet Sarah, a self-proclaimed anti-romantic wedding planner. She’s been burned before and is completely satisfied with making sure that other people’s special day is as special as can be. So, when Sarah’s younger sister, Lily, announces her engagement and that she wants to be married in only two months time, of course Sarah agrees to plan the wedding. Sarah takes on the challenge of planning the wedding in two months and also figuring out ways to make Lily’s high priced dreams come true on a shoestring budget. Things are about to get even harder…

Sarah then gets the surprise of her life when she gets hired by Carrie Condy, American actress and tabloid magnet, to plan her “traditional and countryside” wedding. Carrie had seen the photos of a previous clients’ wedding that Sarah had spent two years planning and wants Sarah to duplicate the whole thing for her. Only problem is, that wedding took two years and Carrie’s getting married in two months. Oh yeah, and on the day of her sister’s wedding. What else could go wrong for Sarah?

To help recreate the traditional wedding, she enlists the help of Elsa and Bron, whom also both worked on the previous event. Elsa, a young and up and coming dress maker and Bron, the hair dresser. We also get to know more about Elsa and Bron and their own disastorous lives.

I could honestly write more, but I don’t want to give away too much of the story. The thing I love about Katie Fforde’s books are the way that she brings people to life and is able to weave multiple stories into a singular storyline. I enjoyed reading about Sarah and Esla and Brons’ lives. If you have never read any of Katie Fforde, I would definitely recommend. This isn’t my top fav of hers, but it’s still divine.

I believe that Flora’s Lot or perhaps Restoring Grace are my two top favs. She is about the only author that I will reread her books after a couple of years.

I need a light romantic novel. Katie Fforde always fits that bill.

A wedding Planner, a Dressmaker and a Hairdresser; work together, become great friends and each find love.

Whats not to love.

Four stars

Audiobook Wedding Season by Katie Fforde

Another enjoyable novel by Katie Fforde. As always I enjoyed the characters as well as the details of the weddings: food, venue, cake, dresses and flowers. If you want light romance you will be happy with this.

Review #4

Audio Wedding Season narrated by Jan Cramer

I usually enjoy Katie Fforde’s books and occasionally get a craving for the world of small village and quirky characters that her books provide. Sadly, this is one I should have avoided. It was horribly slow and the dialogue wasn’t particularly interesting. In addition, the motivation of Sarah just felt forced and the two other girls were equally hard to identify with. Finally, I never got a sense of the the men at all. The whole thing fell flat very early and it was just not possible to finish it. This is one of the few Katie Fforde books to avoid!

I love disappearing in a Katie Fforde novel. Her books follow the same pattern, but I fall in love with the characters and end up rereading the story soon after finishing it. This book sets up characters used in later novels. I had read those books first, so to see the characters be introduced and how everyone intertwines was thrilling to me.
