I actually listened to Nice Girls Don’t Have Fangs before jumping into book two, but I have somehow missed the writing the review. Okay, Jane Jameson just living her life until, she got fired, and then it got turned upside down and inside out. I mean she was plain old Jane, until she got turned into a vampire. Once she was turned she ends up getting framed for murder, and she doesn’t understand why Gabriel wants her. Her life hadn’t been all that interesting until she turned to a vampire.

Molly brings us into Jane’s new world and we get join her on the wild ride. Nice Girls Don’t Have Fangs is hilarious journey of Jane Jameson as she learns to navigate the world as a vampire. At the same time try to figure out why someone is trying to get her framed for murder, and keep her secret hidden from everyone she knew prior to her rise. This story is light and fun, and a great escape from the real world. I absolutely loved this book. I only had one issue about the story, and that was the ending was a bit awkward. I thought I actually had an abridged audiobook, but I didn’t. Truly an awkward ending, then again it kind of fits Jane’s awkward situation. However, the other books in the series didn’t have that feeling. It could have been this was the first book in the series. That was my only issue to the story. Amanda Ronconi did a fabulous job and this book. I’m telling you I laugh so hard with her style of narration for this book. If you have a chance to checkout the Jane Jameson books, I highly recommend reading/listen. Plus, you want to start from the beginning. Granted Jane does a lot of recapping in the next books, but it’s a lot more fun to start with Nice Girls Don’t Have Fangs.

This was free, sent to me in a care package from a friend in Australia. It took me several months to even pick it up, I mean…the title. :/ But, I was pleasantly surprised. The author is a bit funny and snarky in a way that I quite enjoyed.

So, why only 3 stars? The plot was a bit predicable, for starters. Also, I have a little pet loathing of authors who repeat themselves on plot points they find important in the hopes that they can get me, the reader (who is clearly too stupid to pick up on it the first time(s) to grasp this terribly important information…Ms. Harper does this. Also, the author has a little trouble being consistent in her details. For example, the boss who fires her in the first chapter is replacing her with the step-daughter, but later she refers to her as the lady’s niece. There were other times throughout the series (yep, I read on) that this happens, where she refers back, but doesn’t get the details quite right. I find that as well as editing errors jarring when I’m in a story.

All in all, I liked it well enough to read on. I find the characters endearing and the snark quite fun.

Audiobook Nice Girls Don’t Have Fangs (Jane Jameson #1) by Molly Harper

Jane Jameson is having a bad day. First shes fired from the library job she loves. That night, after drinking away her sorrows, her car breaks down and as shes walking home, is mistaken as a deer by a drunk driving by, and is shot. Thankfully the interesting man shed met at the bar had been following her and as she lays dying, asks her if shed be willing to become a vampire so she could live.

I expected this be a romance with an HEA, but found after reading it that its a series, following Jane as she navigates her new world, dysfunctional family, quirky friends and a relationship with her sire. And each one has some aspect of a mystery to it.

Humor abounds as Jane isnt especially accepting of her changed circumstances. Shes got enough problems with her family so just how and when is she going to break the news to them? Vampires are out, but there is a great deal of fear and prejudice, and someone is out to get her.

Janes relationship with Gabriel feels a little off and the story is somewhat jerky with her actions concerning him that sometimes seem to come out of left field. But again, this isnt the HEA book I thought Id be reading. Perhaps it wouldnt have felt off if Id known that up front.

Definitely an interesting and funny story that seems to drag a little at times. But youve got to love the characters.

Audio Nice Girls Don’t Have Fangs (Jane Jameson #1) narrated by Amanda Ronconi

This is definitely the best of its genre in my experience. The humor is actually humorous, the main character isn’t a brain dead self-obsessed fashionista, she doesn’t fall into bed with the love interest five seconds after meeting him, the MC has actual problems that can’t be solved by buying yet another pair of Jimmy Choos or Louboutins, and the ghost is neither a font of all wisdom nor the perky sidekick. (You can tell how annoying I find most of the cute vampire book tropes).
Instead, the relationship between Jane and her sire is complicated, Jane has to struggle to figure out how to handle all the changes, she doesn’t automatically know what gifts she may have acquired or how to use them, and there are real and very messy interactions between all the characters. I found it thoroughly refreshing. It’s a fun, well-written read, and I look forward to the next one.

A fun and witty introduction to the Hollow-Moon world. A century where vampires have come out into the world and Jane Jamerson is the latest addition. However she is a newly risen framed, hunted woman and her whole world is turned upside down. A great introduction, to a different world of vampires and a different view of the world. I really enjoyed seeing what was happening and the characters are well developed, full of fun as well as interestingly put together.

A great read and a worthwhile story with plenty of twists and turns that leave you guessing till the last.
