Hopefully this is the last in this series which started well but no longer has a story to tell. The writer has run out of puff and it shows in unimaginative narrative, not credible relationships and a tedious story line, relieved only by a dramatic incident which then relieves the writer of the need to find another solution. Lazily written.

The Perils of Command audiobook in series John Pearce
Not the greatest series, I’m afraid. It would appear the author also became disinterested in the subject, the apparent endless domestic issues, the boring romance and the constant strife with the Naval hierarchy. I have questioned Mr Donachie’s knowledge of Georgian Navy architecture before, and indeed, his knowledge of sails and sailing. The questions remain. Not for the serious Naval fundi!!

Audiobook The Perils of Command by David Donachie
Whilst this book continued Pearce’s escapades it did leave things up in the air regarding his & Emily’s future as well as that of the Pelicans. Another interesting book navigating round the Mediterranean with Nelson and others. I am thoroughly enjoying the series. Good sea yarns.

Audio The Perils of Command narrated by Peter Wickham
Getting bored with the repetitive fascination with Emily Barclay – I may not buy the next in the series.
I have read all the previous John Pearce novels and there has always been a tendency toward the romances. This one is eccentually a romance noval that occasionally mentions boats.

This is part of an excellent series. The only hassle is that there is always confusion between the US and UK release dates and getting it here in the US.
Easy reading to stop worrying about the pandemic that is sweeping the country it’s better than the rubbish that is passing itself off as good viewing by the BBC in thankful that I have found a writer who can keep us informed about the brutality of the fight against the french at sea and the harshness of the way the injured were treated.a real eye opener
