I have a cofession to make, since Con’s story is now a few months away I decide to re read the Dark Kings and Reapers stories again in Grant’s reading order to I can get a refresher on all that has happened and were things left with in the most recent release. That being said this paragraph has been added to my first review of Firestorm….
Donna Grant kept me on the edge of my seat with Firestorm. Its filled with suspense, angst, betrayal, lust, love and so much more. More secrets are revealed and more questions without answers. I disappointed in Con but he redeems himself in the end. I am still hoping him and Rhi end up together. I think I will be upset if that doesn’t happen. Dimitri is the Lead Dragon King and Faith is his female lead. So much happens in Firestorm that I can’t give away the information. This series or I should say DARK World needs to be read in order and at the beginning, you could start with Dark Heat but my suggestion is going all the way to the very beginning with the first story in the Warriors/Druids series with Dangerous Highlander to understand all the characters and storyline. I have a feeling in the end all of Grant’s Dark World characters will come together.

Firestorm audiobook in series Dark Kings

The Dragon King series is one of my favorite long running paranormal romance series and while I can say I have been falling into a bit of a rut with it as is to be expected when you get into a series that goes on so long, Firestorm really opens the world back up to me giving me the little pieces I have been missing the last few books.

Dimitri is not fond of humans, he has spent lifetimes feeling apathetic, burgeoning on hate to the beings that showed up in his world changing it and him forever. If you have read any of this series before now you know that there is a long and difficult history between the dragons and humans, honor bound to protect them the Dragon Kings end up sacrificing everything to save a weaker race even after the humans betrayed the dragons in the most horrific of ways.

I loved that with Dimitri’s story we get more of the back story, which is honestly heartbreaking. While the past 9 books have reminded why the only dragons left in the ‘human’ world are the Dragon Kings we’ve only ever gotten the basic facts, with this one we get at least one Dragon Kings detailed story and feelings and it is an emotional journey.

Another major point to this book is that my turning hatred toward Con (I have really not liked him the last several books) got a bit of a reprieve. We get a good look into him this book. We get to see his pain and struggles though I will say he is still as big an enigma as ever, but seeing that he truly hates what is happening and is at as much of a loss on how to stop everything as any one else lightens my heart a little when it comes to him. I am still irked about his relationship with the Queen, I am still unsure of his motivations and his history, and I am less and less sure that he is Rhi’s King but I am not as disgusted with him as I have been. I think we have a long way to go before we get to his book but perhaps we have turned a corner with Con and we will slowly start to get all his little pieces to fall together in preparation for his book.

I think with Firestorm the book has less to do with the romance, though it is a well done romance, and more to do with all the side stories beginning to have movement. It’s like a chess board and finally the pawns are starting to make way for the knights and rooks to move, soon we’ll have the King and the Queen making their plays and that is what I am waiting on. I don’t know how long it is going to take us to get there, there are a LOT of Kings and this story could continue for far too long but I feel like we’ve gotten to the top of the hill now and from this point on everything that happens is truly bringing us to the end.

You are going to get what you have come to love from Donna Grant in Firestorm, romance, action, bonds of family and friendship, suspense, mystery, and a little bit of angst. We still have a lot of questions to be answered. When is Ulrik going to take care of Mikkel? When will Ulrik confront Con? When will Balladyn confront Taraeth? What is going on with Con, does he have to be such an ass? What is V up to? When will Rhi find happiness? When will Rhi let all her bad ass out and just take over the world (lol)? Is Rhi going to fall in love with her Reaper? Is Rhi going to become a Reaper..or Death? Is Rhi going to fall in love with Balladyn? Who is Rhi’s Dragon King…..so many more things to discover and I am really looking forward to getting all the answers, but guys I think we have a long way to go before we get there so hang in, it feels like with Firestorm we are on the way to discovering the answers!

Audiobook Firestorm by Donna Grant

I think I’ve fallen into a bit of a rut with the Dark Kings books. The past few have seemed very similar to me and have left me feeling kind of, meh. This story (book #10) was about Dmitri and Faith. They were both okay as lead characters, but there was really nothing outstanding about either of them. I felt like this story just kind of had us spinning our wheels in the never-ending saga of what’s-going-on with Ulrik, Usaeil, Mikkel, and the Kings.

No progress was made here (of any kind), and frankly the romance between Dmitri and Faith was a bit blase. I finished this book, but was less than enthusiastic about doing so. It just didn’t have anything that really held my interest. It was just another entry in the series and it left me with more questions than I had before I started the book. Frustrating!

I think part of the problem with this one was the inclusion of too many secondary characters. The ever-annoying Lily was present in too many scenes, plus you also had a couple of the other mates thrown in as well. I tend to like these stories better when they are more focused on the “main” couple. There are so many other characters in play now that if the author starts trying to include too many of them in the stories, it really just clutters things up.

I’m definitely not planning to rush into reading book #11 anytime soon (even though I already have that one on my Kindle). I’m going to take a break from this series and see if that maybe helps things to seem fresher/more interesting for me when I start the next book.

Audio Firestorm narrated by Antony Ferguson

I was introduced to this author as a part of the Audible Escape package. This book was purchased as both and eBook and audio book. Firestorm is #10 in the Dark King series; which is a part of the greater Dark World. Characters from previous books appear and longer subplots are formed and beginning to build.

Dr. Faith Reynold is an archeologist that has unearthed a dragon on the former home of the Whites, Con sends Dimitri the King of the Whites to the dig to find what Faith has found, destroy the evidence and keep the secret. Large and new plot twists the Dragon Kings are unaware are being revealed. The dragons are fighting foes they know of and ones they have not even imagined.

Another amazing book in this series. I just couldn’t read it fast enough! I normally read one of these novels quicker but hectic life meant I had to pace myself, which really isn’t a bad thing when it comes to reading about the Dragon Kings….it just means the good times roll for a lot longer!

So…..Dimitri – gosh what can I say? He’s the King of the Whites, he’s formidable, true alpha male and is hot hot hot just like the other kings. He’s adamant he won’t fall for the good doctor but alas he falls victim to the love bug in the best kinda way.

Faith Reynolds is lucky enough to have Dimitri stroll into her life, assigned as her protector as she uncovers the bones of one of his White dragons. She’s a great character and I loved her spunk, attitude and a great sense of humour.

There’s a lot happening in this book as well as the story around Dimitri and Faith. As usual Rhi makes an appearance which is always great because she’s amazing.
